Today marks the 5th anniversary of Chris taking over the ownership & leadership of Yoga East. 🎉
Chris is the last person to make fanfare about this accomplishment, so this is Dave & the Yoga East teachers hopping on to say a heartfelt “thank you” and “congratulations!”
I (Dave) didn’t really know Chris back then, other than seeing her in the Mysore room where she clearly had a dedicated practice. When Kimberly announced she was moving away, I was devastated, assuming Yoga East would close. But then came the news that Chris would be taking over. I was psyched — not only would the studio survive, but this person I saw working so hard on kapotasana every morning would be leading us.
I’ve since realized that Chris’s dedication as a student was just a small part of what makes her a great leader — it’s mostly her selflessness, especially in giving up that primary role as a student. It’s fun to be a student and practice with everyone, but on most mornings now Chris is up at 4am to practice alone at 5 so she can be there for all of us. And even when she attends class as a student, she still finds time to take out the trash, update the board with a bad joke, and answer everyone’s questions.
We’re so lucky to see Yoga East in its 25th year — and incredibly thankful that Chris stepped up, with real personal sacrifice, to keep it all going.
