Thirty days until Opening Night, and we’re kicking off the countdown with the reigning FPHL Forward of the Year — Ivan Bondarenko!

Bondarenko was nothing short of spectacular in his first season in Binghamton. The 28-year-old forward appeared in all 56 regular-season games, putting together one of the greatest offensive seasons in Black Bears history. He finished with 21 goals and a franchise-record 77 assists for 98 points, tying the franchise record for most points in a single season. His 77 assists also led the entire FPHL, and he recorded at least one point in 52 of 56 regular-season games.

But Ivan wasn't finished when the playoffs began. In nine postseason games, Bondarenko added 11 assists, helping power the Black Bears to their third consecutive Commissioner's Cup Championship. His ability to create scoring opportunities, find open teammates and consistently make plays was a huge part of Binghamton's championship run.

After a season like that, it didn't take long for the Black Bears to know they wanted him back. Bondarenko became the first returning player to re-sign for the 2026-27 season, sending a clear message that the reigning champions weren't satisfied with three championships. He was also named the Binghamton Hockey Booster Club Player of the Year, adding another major honor to a remarkable first season in Binghamton.

Ramaekers Returns for Fourth Season with Black Bears

The Binghamton Black Bears announced today the signing of three-time Commissioner’s Cup Champion Scott Ramaekers, bringing back one of the most versatile players in the franchise’s history for his fourth season in Binghamton. Ramaekers, who began his Black Bears career as a forward before transitioning to defense, has become a valuable piece of Head Coach Brant Sherwood’s lineup and now becomes the eighth returning player for the 2026-27 season.

Ramaekers has steadily established himself as a dependable two-way player while embracing the challenge of moving from the forward position to the blue line. Last season, he appeared in all 56 regular-season games, splitting time between forward and defense while producing 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points, along with a +35 rating. His 47 points marked a career high in Binghamton, while his +35 was another indication of his impact on both sides of the puck. In three regular seasons with the Black Bears, Ramaekers has now appeared in 112 games, recording 36 goals, 55 assists and 91 points with a remarkable +69 rating.

The veteran has also been part of all three of Binghamton’s Commissioner’s Cup championships, giving him a perfect three-for-three record since arriving in the Southern Tier. In 16 career playoff games with the Black Bears, Ramaekers has added three goals and three assists. His return comes just one week after the club announced the signing of Jesse Anderson, potentially reuniting the defensive pairing that became one of the steadiest combinations on the Black Bears’ blue line last season. With Ramaekers bringing his experience as both a forward and defenseman, Sherwood once again has a player capable of filling whatever role the lineup requires.

For Ramaekers, the 2026-27 season will be about more than simply returning to Binghamton — it will be an opportunity to continue building on a championship legacy that has already produced three Commissioner’s Cups. With eight returners now committed to the Black Bears, the foundation of the defending champions continues to take shape as Binghamton prepares for its sixth season in the FPHL.

Sam Dabrowski, name sound FAMILIAR? It Should.

The Binghamton Black Bears recent signing of Sam Dabrowski should sound familiar before, he has scored on the Black Bears back in the 2023-24 season.

Dabrowski played 12 games for the Danbury Hat Tricks back in the 23-24 and scored 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 points. In the picture below from December 15, 2023 in Binghamton, Dabrowski ( #21) eared a second assist as Bohdan Zinchenko scored at the 14:14 mark of the 3rd period, the Hat Tricks first of only two goals in the game. The Black Bears won the game 4-2.

In that 12 games for Danbury, Dabrowski scored 3 goals against the Black bears on November 4th, November 22nd and November 24th.

Later I will post a series of pictures where Dabrowski and McAnanama squared off in a semi-comical moment during the same game as his assist on December 15th.

Black Bears Add Four-Year Pro Sam Dabrowski

The Binghamton Black Bears have added another veteran presence to their 2026-27 roster, as Head Coach Brant Sherwood has signed forward Sam Dabrowski, a 28-year-old right-handed shot from Onalaska, Wisconsin. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 203 pounds, Dabrowski brings three seasons of professional hockey experience to Binghamton and will enter the upcoming season as a four-year professional.

Before turning pro, Dabrowski played four seasons of NCAA Division III hockey at Hamline University, appearing in 80 games and recording 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points. He began his professional career during the 2023-24 season with the Danbury Hat Tricks of the FPHL, where he made an immediate impact, scoring seven goals and adding six assists for 13 points in just 12 games. Dabrowski then moved to the SPHL, splitting the remainder of that season between the Pensacola Ice Flyers and Knoxville Ice Bears, combining for twelve points in 30 games.

Dabrowski has spent the majority of the last two seasons with Pensacola and Fayetteville. In 2024-25, he produced 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists in 50 games with the Ice Flyers. Last season, after appearing in four games with Pensacola, Dabrowski joined the Fayetteville Marksmen and put together one of his best professional seasons, scoring 11 goals and adding 15 assists for 26 points in 34 games. He also received an opportunity in the ECHL, appearing in two games on loan with the Reading Royals.

With Dabrowski now joining the Black Bears, Sherwood continues to add professional experience to a roster that already features a strong group of returning players. He joins Ivan Bondarenko, CJ Stubbs, Jesse Anderson, Dominik Tmej, Cheechoo Lathlin, Zac Sirota and Gehrett Sargis, giving Binghamton an impressive veteran core heading into the franchise's sixth season.

Dabrowski's combination of size, right-handed shooting and professional experience should give the Black Bears another physical and versatile option up front. After beginning his career in the FPHL before gaining valuable experience in the SPHL and ECHL, Dabrowski arrives in Binghamton with the opportunity to bring that experience back to the league where his professional career began.

Dominik Tmej Returns to Binghamton for 2026-27 Season

The Binghamton Black Bears have received some major news between the pipes, announcing today that Commissioner’s Cup Champion goaltender Dominik Tmej has re-signed with the team for the 2026-27 season. Tmej, who helped Binghamton capture its third consecutive Commissioner’s Cup Championship last season, will return for his second season with the Black Bears after initially signing with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the SPHL. Despite that opportunity, Tmej will instead return to Binghamton and is expected to report to Black Bears training camp at the end of September.

Tmej was nothing short of spectacular during the 2025-26 regular season. In 32 appearances, the netminder posted a 28-2-1 record, stopping 778 of 835 shots for a .932 save percentage and a 1.83 goals-against average. He also recorded seven shutouts, establishing himself as one of the league's dominant goaltenders. His 28 victories came while allowing just 57 goals over 1,870:53 of playing time, helping the Black Bears finish the regular season with a franchise-best 143 points and their second best franchise record of 48-6-2.

Tmej continued to be a key part of Binghamton's championship run in the postseason, appearing in nine games and finishing with a 7-2 record, 2.02 GAA and .915 save percentage, while making 194 saves on 212 shots. One of his biggest performances came in Game 1 of the Commissioner’s Cup Semifinals against the Port Huron Prowlers on April 23. With the Black Bears holding a razor-thin 1-0 lead, Tmej stopped all 27 shots he faced, including 12 in the third period, to preserve the shutout and give Binghamton a critical series-opening victory. The performance earned Tmej the game's First Star honors.

Now, after originally committing to Roanoke, Tmej's return gives the three-time defending champions a familiar and proven presence in net heading into the 2026-27 season. His return also reunites the Black Bears with the goaltender who played a major role in their historic third straight championship, as Binghamton prepares to raise its third consecutive Commissioner’s Cup banner on opening night, October 10, at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.

Wren Traded, Sirota Signs Contract & Big Signing Coming

Just a few quick notes today. Jonathan "Jack" Wren has been traded to the M-d South Monarchs for Future Considerations. At this point that means the Black Bears could receive two players from the Monarchs early on in the season.

Also, before training camp begins, ALL teams need to have at a minimum of 11 players signed to their SPC (Standard Players Contracts. These show up in the transactions as "Signed" for American-born players and "Signed - a player agreement" for any international players. Zac Sirota is the second player to be officially signed, along with Jesse Anderson who signed his officially on August 26th.

Lastly, if things go as they were relayed to me on Monday, tomorrow on Wednesday, a BIG signing will happen and be announced by the Black Bears. It will be an impactful signing and I think the fans will be very happy. More on that tomorrow.

Black Bears sign Parker Bonsignore for the 26-27 Season

The Binghamton Black Bears announced today the signing of Parker Bonsignore for the 2026-27 season. He is the 19th player to be signed and the 13th rookie looking to make the 3-Time Defending Commissioner's Cup Champions.

"Bonsignore is a 21-year-old native of Rochester, NY. He comes to the Black Bears organization from the junior ranks, most recently with the Powassan VooDoos of the NOJHL. Last season, Bonsignore appeared in 28 games, scored nine goals and added 13 assists. He had spent time prior in the NCDC, OJHL, COJHL and CCHL."

"Parker was a member of the Connecticut Chiefs 16U AAA program and the Buffalo Stampede. He stands at 6'0" and adds another left-handed shot to the Black Bears locker room."
