In 1864, there was no ABS, no replay review, and certainly no challenge system.

Fortunately, we managed to get two angles of this play at the plate.

What’s your call: safe or out?

Thank you to for the extra angle!

The Guards put on quite a show for the cranks on Sunday. After the Dairymen of Bovina jumped out to an early lead, the Guards answered with daring base running and several well-struck balls. Through six innings, the match remained very much in doubt, with either club capable of carrying the day.

The Dairymen spent the late innings churning out runs, and before long the Guards found themselves unable to stomach the result. One could say the Guards proved somewhat lactose intolerant.

You can catch these two clubs at it again on Friday, June 12, at the , where they will once more take the field and settle matters according to the rules of 1864. 📸:

This Memorial Day we remember the Ulster County men who served — and died — in the Civil War.

The Kingston Guards take their imagery from the 120th New York Infantry. The Ulster Nine draw from the famed 20th New York State Militia, the “Ulster Guard.”

Before there was vintage base ball, there were the real soldiers of the Hudson Valley. Today we remember them. 📸:

Better late than never — and in case, considerably later than never — our very own Jon finally got around to developing some shots from last season’s match against our friends at the Mountain Athletic Club.

Captured on film with a 1970s-era Minolta SRT-102.
