No. 1 at Ridgefields • 386 yards • Par 4
A fitting introduction to Donald Ross golf, the opening hole turns gracefully from right to left, rewarding thoughtful placement over sheer length. Bunkers guard the inside of the dogleg, inviting the player toward the more advantageous line, while out of bounds along both sides of the hole places a subtle premium on precision.
The elevated green is protected by a bunker short right and another to the left, placing particular importance on the approach. When the hole is cut on the right, discretion is essential, as a miss beyond that side brings a significant falloff into play. Modest in length yet rich in strategy, it is an opening test that immediately asks the golfer to think.
