Your kids are learning what a man does with pain by watching you.
For years, Bill had one answer when life got hard:
Shut down
Push people away
Turn pain into anger
Grind through it alone
It wasn’t something his father intentionally taught him.
It was something he watched.
Bill could handle physical pain on a rock wall.
Emotional pain was different.
Then his dad got sick.
This time, Bill saw the pattern he hadn’t known was running the show.
And instead of shutting down, he showed up scared anyway—for his dad and his family.
He let them in.
He broke the pattern.
And his family got the version of him they needed when things got hard.
That’s legacy.
Not the title.
Not the bonus.
Not how much you provide.
It’s the man your children watch when life hurts.
If the hardest moments keep bringing out a version of you that pushes everyone away and you know something needs to change, comment STUCK and I’ll send you the link to the Blind Spots Challenge, my favorite experiential tool for uncovering the patterns running the show.
