Finn the navigator! He did an impressive job decoding the map for a complicated cave. Well, complicated for us. I wasn’t 100% sure where we were at times, and I teach outdoor navigation.🤣2nd biggest gypsum cave in the country with 4 miles of maze like tunnels. He crushed the crawling sections too, leaving his old man in the dust. I couldn’t be happier or more proud.

If Finn and I get abducted, ya’ll know where to start looking.

Ultra number two was totally different from last year’s. My first ultra was about proving to myself I’m limitless. Going from never having run 10k in my life to an ultra in 6 months.

Channeling Rocky. Eye of the Tiger.

This year’s was the opposite.

A lesson in allowing and letting go of all expectations and goals.

The video explains more.

Both were beautiful experiences.

Guess which one was faster?

The physical challenge is rarely the hardest part.

Burnout and depression can feel surprisingly similar.

Low energy
Poor focus
Low motivation
Feeling disconnected

But a few differences matter:

1. Burnout is often context dependent
You may feel depleted at work and come alive again outside it.

2. Burnout often shifts when the pressure changes
Time away or removing the chronic stressor may bring some energy back.

3. Depression tends to spread more broadly
Low mood loss of interest and hopelessness can follow you across settings.

They can overlap and this isn’t a diagnosis.

But figuring out which problem you’re actually dealing with matters.

What happens when you finally get the freedom you’ve spent 20 years grinding for... and realize freedom was never what you were missing?

Gordon sold his company.

No meetings.
No deadlines.

A year to climb, ride and travel.
Everything he thought he wanted.
Six weeks later, he canceled the trip.

The adventures that always made him feel alive suddenly felt empty.

Why?
He had freedom. But he’d lost his sense of purpose.

And without the grind, everything it had been covering up finally had room to surface.

Most people would tell him to find another challenge.

But that would've put him right back in the same loop.

Sometimes the thing driving your success isn't what you think it is.

And you don't discover what's underneath until you finally stop moving.

If you've been grinding toward someday and something about it already feels off, comment stuck and I'll send you the link to the Blind Spots Challenge, my favorite tool for uncovering what's running underneath the life you've worked so hard to build.

5 signs your burnout is solvable

You didn’t always feel this way
This isn’t your permanent personality.

You still come alive somewhere
On a trail, a bike, a ski day, with the right people, doing something that matters.

Your energy changes with context
Some situations drain you. Others bring you back online.

You can still get into flow
Your capacity for focus and aliveness is still there.

Pressure has become part of how you function
When the urgency disappears, you don’t automatically feel better.

That’s good news.

It means there may be patterns underneath the burnout that can be understood and changed.

If you want to uncover the patterns keeping you stuck in that cycle, comment STUCK and I’ll send you the link to the Blind Spots Challenge, my favorite experiential tool for uncovering the patterns running the show.

The certainty you’re looking for isn’t in the plan. It’s in knowing you can handle what happens when the plan breaks.

A lot of us look for certainty outside ourselves

The spreadsheet
The framework
The expert opinion
Someone telling us the idea is good

But that kind of certainty disappears the second reality stops cooperating

The deeper kind is self trust

Whatever happens I’ll be okay
I can handle it
I’ve got this

That’s what I feel in the mountains

Hanging on a rope in a place that might look terrifying to someone else

Relaxed

Looking around

Trusting my skills

Now imagine bringing that same internal certainty into the meeting the presentation or the decision you’ve been overthinking

They can throw something unexpected at me and I’ll handle it

If you want more practical tools for building that kind of self trust and uncovering the patterns that make you look outside yourself for certainty, comment INFO and I’ll send you the link to the Blind Spots Challenge, my favorite experiential tool for uncovering the patterns running the show.

The same voice that pushes you to achieve can also be the voice keeping you stuck.

I started noticing it while doing Zone 2 training for running.

The whole point was to slow down and stay in the right zone.

But the high achiever in me kept chirping.

Faster.

Push harder.

You should be doing more.

I thought that voice was helping me improve.

Instead, it kept pulling me out of the training I actually needed and slowing my progress.

Then I started noticing the same thing at work.

More pressure.

More self criticism.

More forcing.

And sometimes, less creativity, less focus, and worse performance.

That got my attention.

What if the voice you think is driving you is actually the thing getting in your way?

I started seeing the same pattern in training and in work.

Notice anything similar in your own life?

Tell me in the comments.
