This season has been really special, and moments like this make me stop and reflect on just how proud I am of this group.
Being named Academic State Champions with a 3.98 team GPA is an incredible accomplishment. What makes it even more special to me is knowing the type of young women that earned it. These girls compete at a high level on the court, but they also take pride in being great students, great teammates, and representing our program the right way.
Something like this doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of a lot of hard work and commitment. The work started back in the summer, continued through our late night fall workouts, and carried over into every practice and game during the season. The same discipline and effort they showed in the gym is the same effort they showed in the classroom every day.
From the beginning of the year, we talked about what our program is built on — our Four Pillars: Attitude, Team, Trust, and Work. This group truly lived those pillars.
They showed up every day with a great attitude, they put the team first, they built trust with each other and with our coaching staff, and they were never afraid of the work it takes to be successful.
As a coach, you hope to have teams that represent your program the right way. This group did that in every way possible. They supported each other, pushed each other, and truly cared about one another. That’s what made this team so special.
To see them recognized during the 3A State Championship tournament for their work in the classroom is something our entire program and community should be proud of.
I’m incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to coach this group.
So proud of all of you.
