A same day report from Detroit Reservoir!! I took Kevin in my boat this time!!

Started at 6:30 and put the last Kokanee in the box at 11:45.

I only got a few of this year's fish and the rest is next year's fish. We didn't get the last fish until the west end of the Reservoir was in white caps!! Most of the day the wind was very manageable.

Got 3 Kokanee right away and then it was a fish here and there for the rest of the 20 fish limit.

The usual gear was working, pink bugs, blue bugs, black bugs. The fish seemed a little deeper for us, 70’ on the downriggers, 125’ back with 3 oz. On the long line.

It is the low water ramp now!! Quite a few boats out. There is not a lot of parking on the low water ramp and there were about 5 rigs parked past the no parking sign. Not sure if they got a warning or ticket, just beware of the signs!! You can park in the main lot if the low water ramp parking is full.

Thanks Kevin for the company and all your help unloading and loading the boat today.

That's my report!!

Well, my usual day late report, technically two days as I did a rare two days in a row!!

On Tuesday 8/18/26 I went to Detroit Reservoir with my friend Kevin in his boat. Started fishing at 06:30. We finished putting the last Kokanee in the cooler at 11:30.

On Wednesday, 8/19/26 went back to Detroit Reservoir with my friend Steve in his boat. We started fishing at 06:30 again!! We put 20 Kokanee in the cooler at 9:30!!

The weather was great, slight east wind to start and then died down a little at 8:00. We got out of there before any skiers or wake boarders showed up!! Fish ranged from 10” to a few in the 15” range. Depth was 50’ to 70’ on the downriggers and 3 oz. or 4 oz. Lead on the long lines. Fished from the south side across the ramp at Mongold to Kenny Creek. As for terminal tackle, bugs and small beads and blades in pink and orange were working.

Thanks Kevin and Steve for letting me tag along.

All fish are now in the smoker or brine!! Good eats to come!!

Oh, when Steve and I left on Wednesday, only 1 dock was floating at the main ramp. I would suspect after this weekend or maybe before it will be the low water ramp(no docks) from now on.

Wow!! Another same day report!! Went back to Detroit Reservoir with my friend Kevin in his boat. Start at 6:30. Dropped the gear and started fishing just out from the ramp towards the south shore. It wasn't long before a rod had a fish on!! Fish in the net!! It was like that till around 8:30 and then the bite slowed for us. Headed west towards the dam, we picked up a fish here and there. Finally number 20 hit the cooler at 10:30.

Details, great bite early, down 55' to 60' on the downriggers, 3 oz. And 100' back on the long lines. Blue bug, pink beads were the best. Dodgers, gold, silver arrowflash dodgers.

No big fish for us this time, 10" to 12". We did get 3 fin clipped kokanee.

2 docks still floating at the main ramp. They also had the low water ramp available.

Thanks Kevin for the invite and trip.

Look out folks, a rare same day fishing report!! Went to Detroit Reservoir with my friend Kevin in his boat. Put the boat in at Mongold State Park ramp. Still 2 1/2 docks floating at around 6:30. Talked to Allan J. Roche' at the ramp, nice seeing you in the "wild"!

Ran west to Blowout arm and dropped some gear. Got 2 nice Kokanee right off the bat. Al right going to be a great day of catching!! Well, that was short lived!! Putted around blowout for a while and only picked up a few kokanee. My 1 rod went silent, I pulled it in to check to see if i had been robbed, no wasnt robbed but had a 4" chinook smolt on!! Cleared the line and went went west. Got down to Kenny Creek area and start putting fish in the box. We did get our 20 Kokanee by noon.

Details, east wind most of the morning but still fishable. West wind did start around noon but we were done by then. We were running 2 downriggers and 2 long lines. It seemed that 60' on the downriggers were getting fish. On the long lines, it was 100' back with 3 oz of lead. Various dodgers but blue and black bugs did the majority of the catching.

That's my report, tight lines everyone.

A day late report, what's new!! Detroit Reservoir 7/30/26.

Got to the lake and got the boat in the water at around 6:30. Started fishing out frome Mongold ramp towards the sout shore. With only 1 downrigger deployed and getting the other one ready, it goes off. I reel in a very nice 13" kokanee. Wow!! I thought this was going to be a hot day of catching!! Well that was short lived!!. Had the second downrigger deployed and no takedowns till a hour later!! It went on like this the whole day I was out there!! At 11:00 I had 7 in the box and then the west wind showed up. Ran up to the dam and wind drifted back. Had a few takedown but they didn't stick. Got within site of the ramp and it was a little calmer and picked up my last 3 kokanee. By this time it was 1:30.

Got the boat loaded and headed back to Keizer at a decent time i thought until the right side of the boat trailer deside to give up!! There is am in the middle of the afternoon heat along a busy hyway changing a tire!! It was a good trip untill then. Atleased it was on the way home instead on the way there!!

Details, best depth was 55' with the 13" fish at 60'. The other fish ranged from 12" to 10". Some of the 10" fish(3 out of the 4 that I keeped)were this years fish which surprised me!! Blue bug did the majority of the catching and a pink tube fly did the rest.

Fish are now in brine and will be in the smoker tomorrow and will be enjoyed shortly afterwards!!

It's been a bit sense I have posted. Well, mostly because I haven't been fishing!! I was going to go back to Odell Lake this week to try and jig up some more kokanee before the jig bite dies but elected to stay home and help out with baby sitting with my daughter's “fur babys”.

Not all was lost though. With the jigging good at Odell this spring and into July I went through a bunch of jigs!! So I'll be working on building up my stock.

Also during this time, I smoked up a batch of Crane Prairie kokanee that I got earlier this year. Yum!!

Will be “hitting” the water after the “fur baby's” are returned to there owner and safely home. Was thinking either Detroit Reservoir or back to Odell Lake. I have seen and heard report are good for both lakes.

So that's my “non” fishing report!!

Happy 4th of July and hope you have an amazing holiday weekend

Odell Lake Trip 6/22/26 to 6/26/26,

Day 1, Arrived at Trapper Creek Cg right around 11 am. Got the boat in the water and set up camp. I did venture out to scope out the situation. Of course there was a west wind going by then. Was watching the finder and saw some fish on the bottom in 109’ of water. Dropped my jig down and fish on!! In the bucket it went. I managed 4 more kokanee before I got tired of back trolling in the wind so I called it a day and headed back to camp.

Day 2, I started fishing around 6:00 am in the same area I was in the day before. Didn't see a lot on the bottom but a lot of suspended fish up about 10’ from the bottom. Dropped my jig to the bottom anyway. Fish on!! It went that way till 8:00 when 25 kokanee in the bucket!! Most of the fish were 11”, an occasional 9” and 12” too!!.

Day 3, My friend Richard came up the night before and we went out in the morning at 5:45. Started in the same area, finished with 50 kokanee at 8:30. They were the same size as the day before but Richard got the biggest kokanee right at 13”.

Day 4, Same as day 3, 50 kokanee by 8:30. With the impending weather change, I pulled my boat as I had my possession of 75 kokanee and Richard said he had enough with his 50 kokanee.

Summary, it was an awesome trip, jigging was very good!! Bigger fish on the bottom(11” to 12 ½”) with an occasional small one(9 ½”). It was super calm in the morning so I just drifted. Trollers were also doing good. Thanks Richard for joining me and seeing Rich, Nate and Jeff in “the wild”

A rarity, a same day report!! Shifted gears today and took my friend Kevin to Netarts Bay to do some clam digging with this series of low tides.

I got my limit of butter clams in about 1 1/2 hours. The size was bigger this time.

Kevin got his limit also, 12 Gapers, 6 butter clams and 2 crockles. He had some really nice gapers this time too. Sorry no pictures of them.

Weather was perfect for digging, slight overcast, little wind and not too hot or cold!! Not a lot of people but it was a weekday.

Thanks for the company Kevin.
