Even if you don't typically like surprises, I think you'd love this one!🥳

I went in to wake up my boys and tell them it was time to get ready for the day (including breakfast) so we could get started with school.

What I found was this cute man ALREADY doing school on his bed!!

After questioning him, I found out he'd already had breakfast and done another portion of his Language Arts before that. 💪

What?!

BEST surprise ever for this homeschooling mama!!!

I gotta know...

What would you want your kids to surprise you with???

Homeschooling can be challenging,

But time and time again, when I put my trust in God, He helps me through the tough homeschool days.

My circumstance hasn't changed, I still homeschool, but my attitude and my ability to deal with the tough gets easier.

Sometimes there's a little more inaction than actual action. 🤣

It's not like they're new to the idea of homeschooling...

But it can be SO hard to stay on task like they're supposed to.

Don't we find ourselves in the same 🚣‍♂️ sometimes...

Wishing we didn't have to do the task at hand?

It's a hard life skill to learn, but inaction doesn't make the learning happen.

Only action does.

Do you know what your expectations are for your kids in regards to homeschool?

Do THEY know what those expectations are?

Are they written down anywhere?

Have you discussed them and come up with some together?

If not, make it happen as soon as you can.

Getting on the same page as each other can make a HUGE impact on the flow and effectiveness of your homeschool day.

To say that my son Loves cars is an understatement.

So, when we saw this school bus parked early in the morning, we HAD to go spend some up-close time looking at it and taking pictures.

I think he kinda floated around the rest the day in joy.

This one thing I've done several times over the last couple weeks of school.

Actually, I find I do this a LOT at the beginning of every school year.

I work to pay attention to what is working...(and keep those things)...and what's NOT working...and get rid of those things-or simply tweak them to try something new.

I keep doing this until we have an effective flow for the school year...

Until it gets interrupted later in the year and I tweak again LOL!

There's a story behind every picture.📸

The story behind this picture includes a lot of frustration...on both his part and mine.

He was struggling with staying on task. ✏️

Part of the struggle was that the table he was working at suddenly became the "wrong size" for him to do his work. LOL.

I can laugh now, but at the time, it was extremely frustrating. I just wanted him to get on task. He just wanted "to-not-to".

I wish I could say I stayed calm and handled everything with grace. But, I can't.

I raised my voice and he raised his.

Even though we both apologized later, I wish I could have a do-over. But I can't.

But, what I can do is choose to learn from this. What I can do is Not beat myself up about it. What I can do is focus on how I might have handled the situation differently, so I'm more prepared for the next frustrating situation.

Because it will come.

Homeschooling isn't perfect and I'm not a perfect homeschooling mom.

But I will never give up trying my best to be better and better each day.

Oh, and the picture with my L working at the piano??? That was his solution to the table being the wrong height.

It only lasted about 2 days...the table is the right height again! 🤣🤣🤣

It's here!

The first week of school.

I spent several hours preparing their schedules for the year so that they can be as independent as possible.

And my boys are working so hard to self-govern their school work!

They've even chosen to go outside sometimes to work in the fresh air.

I'm definitely a proud mama!

Let's just hope they keep their enthusiasm up for longer than a couple weeks-LOL!

Well, like many of you, the Dunford household is gearing up for another year of homeschool!

And our oldest is going to be going to a charter high school... that brings on a whole set of new emotions for this mama! (More on this later).

With the beginning of the school year starting just next week, we got out for a before-school date night.

And even though it was 🌧, I was the ONLY person in line to go in to the event with an 🌂 . LOL!
