🚨Football & Cheer Parents🚨
With the Texas heat in full force, we want our families to know that KYSA is following the new UIL Heat Stress & Athletic Participation standards to help keep our athletes safe.
Beginning August 1st, UIL implemented required heat-safety standards for Texas schools based on Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) - not simply the outside temperature or heat index.
🌡️ What does that mean for our athletes?
WBGT takes into account temperature, humidity, wind and direct sunlight to better measure the actual conditions athletes are experiencing.
Based on the WBGT reading, practices may require:
• Additional water and rest breaks
• Reduced equipment
• Shortened or modified activities
• Shortened practice times
• Suspension of outdoor activity when conditions reach unsafe levels
Our commissioners & coaches are monitoring conditions and making adjustments as necessary. If a practice looks a little different, starts later, ends early or is canceled because of the heat, please know those decisions are being made with athlete safety first.
💧 Athletes will always have access to water, and we encourage families to begin hydrating well before practice.
The safety of our Lions will always come first. 🖤💛🦁🏈📣
