While traveling back from Atlanta with the (Kalamazoo Black Male Alliance) I was thrilled to finally make it over and purchase a few items from the eastsidegolf store inside the Detroit Metro Airport (DTW)⛳️

What made the visit even more meaningful is knowing that they are a Black-owned business. Supporting this company isn’t just about picking up top-notch golf essentials—it’s about investing back into our community, uplifting legacy, and ensuring strong representation in every industry.

I’m proud to stand behind Eastside Golf. If you haven’t been yet, it’s definitely worth the trip! 🖤

Until Lee Elder, the only Blacks at the Masters were caddies and waiters. To ask a Black man what he feels about the traditions of the Masters is like asking him how he feels about his forefathers, who were slaveholders.” - Calvin Peete

Before Eldrick “Tiger” Woods dominated the golf scene in the late 1990s as a man of African descent, Calvin “Mr. Accuracy” Peete was the most successful Black player on the PGA Tour.

Born July 18, 1943 in Detroit, Peete won 12 PGA tournaments between 1979 and 1986, including the Tournament Players Championship in 1985. He was the second Black man to ever play at the Masters, in 1980.

They called him “Mr. Accuracy because he won the PGA’s driving accuracy title for ten consecutive years from 1981-1990! Jack Nicklaus called Peete an “extremely straight driver of the golf ball.”

Calvin Peete was a self-taught golfer, played with a crooked left arm after falling out of a cherry tree at age 12, did not pick up a golf club until his 20s, and did not join the pro tour until his 30s.

And because he dropped out of high school in the early 1960s, Peete had to earn his GED in 1982 to be able to play on the Ryder Cup team. He went on to become a member of the U.S. Team in 1983 and 1985 and earned over $2.3 million in prize money.

Calvin Peete joined the ancestors April 29, 2015. His caddie’s name was Adolphus “Golf Ball” Hull.
