For those just trying to maximize their placement, be overly strategic and stick to your game. Going full send and “seeing what happens” likely won’t work well for any of these 😬

We use the CrossFit methodology to maximize our fitness. Our balance across the 10 physical skills affords us the opportunity to have the best chance at competence across any and all tasks that could come our way - otherwise known as the Unknown and Unknowable.

But what classifies as “Unknown and Unknowable”? How much time do you have to specifically prepare before you must complete a task? 1 second, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year? What’s the cut off for a task being unknown?

If a unique Sn**ch Complex is announced 2 months prior to a competition, is that still testing the U&U? Does the event have to be as on-the-spot at the CrossFit Games event “Chaos” to be truly U&U?

If an athlete has been training hard for 10 years and finally makes the CrossFit Games. But that season the workouts are announced a full year prior to the competition - is that still a test of their ability to tackle the U&U?

How soon or late do elements need to be pulled from “the hopper” to still be considered U&U?

Maybe the concept of U&U only realistically applies to aspects of functional fitness in a real life setting, instead of a sport specific setting?

What do you guys think?

Here’s a few examples of things that could be improved:
-More live Games qualification opportunities and less online spots
-Require public videos for any athletes attempting to make any next stage of competition
-Keep online leaderboard blind until after video review process is done
-Carefully choose movement variations that provide simple and obvious standards. Save complexity for live events.

Low volume, sky high intensity…

Coming up tomorrow-
4 Rounds of:
5-3-1
T&G Clean and Jerk 185/135
Burpee Box Jump Overs 30/24”
2:00 Rest (after each full 5-3-1)

16 Min Cap

-These should be nearly all out effort intervals. You of course should be in control of the barbell and cycling efficiently, for UB sets across all rounds. However, minimize transitions as much as possible between movements. 9 reps of each fast, rest, then repeat.

Earlier this week we did Overhead Barbell Lunges…
Did you sn**ch grip, press grip, or somewhere between?

Get Strong Min 48-60
EMOM 12
25’ OH Walking Lunge Steps
10 Alternating Weighted Pistols
Rotate Movements OTM

-We have some weighted single leg work, but you choose the loads. OH Walking Lunges should be with a barbell, smooth and UB. However, you can mix it up and use DBs/KBs for practice, or even just a single bumper plate if you want to keep it light! The Pistols should be with a single KB, DB, or plate. Try to have control throughout the movement vs. “falling” and bouncing out of the bottom.
