We are changing the bike course for all races and the run course for the Olympic distances. The duathlon starting runs are unaffected.
In preparation for the Jökulhlaup/Glacial Outburst Flood, the City and Borough of Juneau has closed the openings in the HESCO barrier wall earlier than we planned on. This interrupts our Olympic run course in 2 locations. Furthermore, the filling of Su***de Basin (source of flooding) is forecast for within a week of the race. For these reasons we have pivoted to the contingency routes.
All bikes will exit UAS and turn left, going towards Auke Bay, then out the road, north on Glacier Hwy. The sprint turn will be at Tee Harbor. The Olympic turn will be at Amalga Rd. This does add a little distance, and a little more climbing to the courses. Turns are where they are to maximize safety and the placement of aid stations.
For Olympic runners, the course is going to be two laps of the sprint course around Auke Lake. The run course will be very well marked. The two laps are a bonus for those energized by music and spectators!
The Athlete Guide on the resources page has been updated to the Jökulhlaup Edition and includes maps and turn by turn directions. This is also a good place to review rules and the race weekend schedule.
