SouthEast Alaska Sailing

SouthEast Alaska Sailing In the winter of 2009, a group of sailors got together to talk about the coming spring, lie about their past exploits, and generally talk sailing.

SEAS mission is to promote the appreciation of sailing and foster a community and culture committed to advancing both sailing and sailing education in the Juneau area. They were so taken by how much fun they were having, that they wondered why there wasn't a group that did this every week. After awhile, a general lament rose for all of the derelict sail boats in the harbors. The feeling was that

for first time sailors, it is daunting to get a sailboat out on the water. Juneau lacked a fun and easy going group of sailors willing to help instill the confidence to get these boats out. So, to create a fun and easy atmosphere to sail, these sailors decided it was time that Juneau have a sailing club that was about sailing and fun! SEAS was born.

Auke Bay fleet, this is your time to shine!

As a shakedown race before our Chichagof Island Rally later this month, we have our only Auke-Bay-based day race of the year this Sunday, June 7. We added this race to the SEAS Cup last summer and it was so fun we had to do it again.

Starting at 10:00 a.m between the committee boat and the North light on Portland Island, sail north up Lynn Canal. Rounding Bird Island, either direction, Skipper’s Choice. Finish in Favorite Channel on an imaginary line bearing 195 magnetic to, and within ½ nautical mile of the north light on Portland Island.
