SLRSP Park Update- July 23, 2026

We are excited to announce that South Llano River State Park will reopen Friday, July 24th! Thanks to our hardworking staff and support from Bastrop State Park, Blanco State Park, Inks Lake State Park, and our Region Maintenance Team, we have been able to clear the debris from the flood that required our continued park closure.

While the park will be open, some areas will remain closed. The fishing pier at Buck Lake, access to shoreline under the bridge, .37 miles of the River Trail along the Eastern property line, and .16 miles of the River Trail connecting with Buck Lake are closed. In addition, our staff has placed caution cones and signage in areas along the river where there is no longer fencing. Please respect these areas and signage, as they have been placed for our visitors’ safety.

In addition, we are asking that our guests use caution if they choose to take part in any water recreation activities. While the water is clearing up, there is still some murkiness remaining. In addition, as with any flood, the river has changed course. If you are visiting us again, areas you may be familiar with may now be unrecognizable. The flood has also carried and deposited a large amount of debris. Some of this debris is clearly visible, while other hazards may remain unseen under the surface of the water. Precaution should be taken with all river recreation!

We can’t wait to welcome our visitors back to the park! See you soon!

Where it all began.

“Steady” Ed Headrick. The Father of Disc Golf. PDGA #001.

Steady Ed's innovation, passion, and vision for disc golf can never be matched. A few of his many accolades include modernizing the Frisbee, inventing the basket, founding the PDGA, and laying the concrete foundation for everything our sport continues to build on. His vision transformed a flying toy into a sport played across the globe — and every round played today carries on his legacy.

As the Professional Disc Golf Association celebrates its 50th anniversary, we’re looking back at the players and organizers who helped shape the world of professional disc golf. From its grassroots beginnings in 1976 to the next generation of competitors and fans, is a celebration of the sport’s past, present, and future.

We are monitoring the flooding situation as it unfolds. At this time the effects of the flooding are still minor to our parks but the water has broken the banks of the North Llano between the City and County Parks. We expect some damage but we are also looking at a week of sunshine and cleanup before now and the tournament. Our hopes are that the people living at or visiting the banks of the North, South and the Main Llano River are safe.

Our recreational activity at this time will remain on schedule and the rodeo course is in great condition.
