Today we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned they were free.
As a program, we celebrate the values of unity, respect, and opportunity for all. We recognize the contributions, achievements, and strength of Black Americans who have helped shape our communities, schools, and the game we love.
May we continue to learn from history, support one another, and work toward a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
