Broadcasting 24/7 on 98.9 FM and streaming worldwide at www.ayrlib.com, AYR reaches audiences across Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Gbarpolu Counties, and parts of neighbouring Guinea. AYR delivers high-impact programs on youth empowerment, civic engagement, girls’ rights, public health, local governance, education, and rural development. In 2024, AYR completed a state-of-the-art media complex—a milestone for youth-led innovation in Liberia. We are now building the country’s first rural, tuition-free School of Professional Journalism and Vocational Education, which will train over 25,000 young people in media, ethical leadership, and sustainable skills in the next ten years. AYR’s impact model is rooted in our theory of change:

To date, AYR has trained and mentored more than 50 young leaders in journalism, broadcasting, and civic leadership—including youth with disabilities—and provides daily volunteer opportunities for 30+ rural young people. Lofa County University asks for Settlement of Over LRD 10 Million in Outstanding Sponsorship Obligations

Voinjama, Lofa County September 9, 2026: The Administration of Lofa County University (LCU) has disclosed that financial aid providers and scholarship sponsors owe the institution more than L$10 million in outstanding financial obligations, a situation the university says is creating serious challenges for its operations.

The disclosure was made on Wednesday, September 9, during a press conference held by the university administration ahead of the reopening of the academic semester.

According to the administration, several students currently enrolled at the university have benefited from scholarships and other forms of financial assistance from individuals, organizations, and sponsors. However, some of the sponsors have reportedly failed to settle their financial commitments to the institution.

The university administration says the accumulated debt has placed considerable pressure on the institution's ability to meet some of its financial obligations and effectively carry out its academic and administrative functions.

The administration is therefore calling on all individuals, organizations, and sponsors with outstanding financial commitments to the university to make every effort to settle their obligations.

Sponsored Students to Face Academic Documentation Restrictions

In a related development, the LCU Administration announced that students whose tuition and other financial obligations are covered by sponsors who have not yet settled their payments will not be issued their grade sheets until the outstanding obligations are resolved.

The administration said the measure is intended to encourage sponsors to fulfill their commitments and ensure that the university receives the funds owed to it.

The decision could affect students who depend on sponsorship arrangements for their education, particularly where sponsors have delayed payments to the university.

The administration, however, urged sponsors to act promptly to prevent students from being negatively affected by delays in settling their financial obligations.

University Seeks Increase in Budgetary Allocation

Meanwhile, the Administration of Lofa County University is also appealing for an increase in the institution's budgetary allocation, citing the growing number of students and the increasing demands being placed on the university.

The administration said the university's student population has continued to grow, resulting in increased pressure on existing academic, administrative, and infrastructural resources.

According to the university, additional budgetary support is needed to enable the institution to adequately respond to the growing needs of its students and improve the quality of education and services provided.

The administration believes that increased financial support would help the university strengthen its academic programs, improve infrastructure, provide essential resources, and create a more conducive learning environment for students.

The university is therefore calling on the government, lawmakers, partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders to consider increasing support to LCU as the institution continues to expand its services to students in Lofa County and beyond.

The administration emphasized that addressing the university's financial challenges requires the collective support of students, sponsors, government, partners, and other stakeholders.

LCU says the timely settlement of outstanding sponsorship obligations, coupled with increased budgetary support, will be critical to sustaining the institution's operations and meeting the demands associated with its growing student population
