Dana Gostomczik is the next 2026 inductee to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame. Dana is a 1998 JWP graduate. He qualified for the state wrestling tournament in 1995 and then became a three-time state champion in 1996, 1997, and 1998. Welcome to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame Dana!

Our next inductee’s best memory of JWP Athletics was winning the state wrestling tournament in 2001. Jon Wheelock is a 2001 graduate of JWP. He was a three-sport athlete participating in football, wrestling, and baseball. In 2000, Jon took 4th place in the MN state wrestling tournament. In 2001, Jon was selected to wrestle on the MN all-star team in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Jon has officiated numerous MSHSL State Wrestling tournaments, with assignments including two team final matchups. Welcome to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame Jon.

Mike Sprengeler is our next 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee. Mike is a 1983 graduate of Janesville High School. He was a three-sport athlete earning 10 athletic letters, three each in basketball and football, and four in baseball. He earned All-Conference honors his junior year in basketball and in his senior year earned All-Conference and All-Area honors in football, basketball, and baseball. Mike was a Jack M Dahl award recipient. He continued his athletic career at Bethany Lutheran College, playing both basketball and baseball. Welcome to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame Mike!

Our next inductee earned 11 athletic letters while competing in four sports. Gary Groebner is a 1971 graduate of Janesville High School. His 11 letters were earned in football – 3, basketball – 2, baseball – 4, and track – 2. Gary earned All-Conference honors in baseball his senior year. His best memory was beating Number 1 in the State, Owatonna, in baseball his senior year (1971). Gary is also a contributor to JWP Athletics as he was the Public Address announcer for 3rd -6th grade Football and Friday night High School Football games from 2004 – 2018. Interesting fact – Gary has gotten 3 hole-in-ones in golf. Welcome to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame Gary!

Jason Gerdts is our next 2026 inductee to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a 1987 graduate of Janesville Public school, was a three-sport athlete and earned 10 athletic letters; three each in football and basketball and four in baseball. In Jason’s Junior year he earned All-Area honors in baseball and his senior year was All -Conference and All-Area in all three sports; football, basketball and baseball. Jason was co-captain of the football team his senior year and is a Jack Dahl Award recipient. Welcome to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame Jason!

Welcome Ann (Cowdin) Gerdts to the 2026 JWP Athletic Hall of Fame. Ann is a 1989 graduate of Janesville High School, she was a multi sport athlete earning 8 athletic letters. Ann received All-Area honors in Volleyball (2), Basketball (2), and Softball (4), and Captained the Volleyball and Basketball teams her senior year. Ann also received All -Conference honors in Basketball and Softball and was a 3 year member of the All-Regional softball team. Ann is a recipient of the Outstanding Senior Woman Athlete Award. Welcome Ann to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame!

Shawn Fury is our next inductee to the 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame. Shawn is a 1993 JWP graduate. He played varsity baseball for three seasons and was a member of the 1992 basketball team that won the subsection championship. He was an All-Cnference and All-Area player in basketball and All-Conference, All-Area and All-Subsection in baseball. During his senior year he hit .328 and at one point collected six consecutive hits. As a senior in basketball, he scored 33 points as the team won the holiday tournament at United South Central. Shawn holds the school record for most assists in a game with 14, and scored 26 against Maple River in the playoffs when they lost by six to the eventual state champs.
Shawn played basketball at Worthington Community College and then graduated from St. John's. He split his time between New York City and Minnesota. As a contributor, he has written dozens of pieces about JWP athletes and its teams and takes pride in what his wife jokingly calls his second career as the "school historian." In 2006 he wrote a story for Minnesota Monthly about former JWP wrestlers and siblings Matt Fasnacht and his late brother Mike.
Shawn has also written tens of thousands of words about the school's basketball teams and enjoys nothing more than documenting the many triumphs and occasional heartbreaks that make JWP sports so special to so many people. Welcome to the JWP Athletic Hall of Fame Shawn!

Jared Anderson is our next inductee. Jared is a 1993 JWP Graduate, a 9-time letter winner and a Jack Dahl award recipient. He was a state track meet qualifier in 1993 finishing 6th and when he graduated, he held five school records, one each in the 400 meter, 800 meter, 1600 meter, 3200 meter, and a member of the 4x400 relay team. Jared was All Conference in track and cross country for two years. He continued to be part of JWP Athletics by coaching the boys and girls cross country teams in 1998 and 1999 and boys track in 1997 and 1998.

Please welcome Angelie (Anderson) Welvaert to the 2026 JWP Athletic Hall of Fame. Angelie is a 1999 JWP Graduate and a 10-letter award winner. Five letters in track, four in cross country, and one in basketball. Angelie set a school record in the 1600, earned a Gopher conference championship in cross country, 2 trips to the state cross country tournament, and was recognized on the cross country (4) and track (2) All-Area teams. Welcome to the HOF Angelie.
