📣 PVYSL Update 📣
⚾ **Looking Back at This Season**
We had many successes this year, including strong participation, a smooth season overall, positive feedback from outside organizations, and continued growth across the league. At the same time, we've identified areas where we can improve, particularly with registration timelines, roster management, communication, and overall organization as we continue to grow.
📅 **Planning Ahead**
One of our big goals for next season is to begin registration, evaluations, and team formation earlier. This will allow for better planning, healthier roster sizes, and a smoother experience for players, parents, and coaches.
👥 **League Leadership & Volunteers**
As PVYSL continues to grow, we will be expanding volunteer opportunities and committee involvement. We are actively looking for dedicated individuals who want to help improve the experience for our players and families while sharing the workload that comes with running a community league.
💰 **Financial Update**
One thing many people may not realize is that PVYSL broke away from PVRSI, formed an entirely new league, and we started this season with $0 in the bank. As a new board, we had no consistent records to accurately gauge what a full season of expenses would look like. So, we worked hard to budget responsibly, build a good foundation of record-keeping, and ensure the league remained financially stable.
This season alone, the league paid:
• Over **$6,000 in umpire fees**
• Nearly **$2,000 for concession stand workers**
• Approximately **$900 per month in utilities**
• PLUS Additional costs for uniforms ($12,000), equipment, field maintenance, concessions, and facility upkeep.
SO- if you ever ask where did my money go...there it is.
AGAIN...Because of careful budgeting (thanks to our awesome treasurer), sponsorship support, fundraisers, and countless volunteer hours, PVYSL finished the season in the green financially for the first time in many years. We are incredibly proud of that accomplishment and believe it sets the league up for a stronger future. We are maintaining a responsible budget while working towards the following goals...
🏟️ **Facilities & Improvements**
Several improvement projects are already being explored, including:
• Plumbing and restroom repairs
• Additional safety netting
• Shade structures for families
• Playground improvements
• Potential field expansion opportunities
• Energy-efficient lighting upgrades
• Scoreboard and electrical improvements
Many of these projects will depend on grants, sponsorships, and community partnerships, and our secretary is actively pursuing those opportunities.
💡 **Scoreboard & Lighting Update**
We know many people have asked about the scoreboards. They were provided through our partnership with Coke, and we absolutely want to use them.
The challenge is that the scoreboards are currently tied into the same electrical breaker system as the field lights (really large breaker), creating significant operating costs- like $500 for one night of games on one field. We have been working all season to find a solution. The estimated cost to properly separate and repair the system is approximately $1,500–$2,000. We are aware there are other options, we just want to be smart about the decisions we make.
As a board, we had to make difficult decisions this year while learning the true costs of operating the league. Our priority was ensuring financial stability, maintaining our facilities, and creating a foundation that will allow us to continue improving while working toward lowering registration costs in the future.
We are also exploring LED lighting upgrades and other long-term solutions that could significantly reduce power costs moving forward.
📱 **Communication Improvements**
To help keep everyone informed, we will continue expanding communication efforts through Facebook and our new PVYSL Band group. We want families to have easy access to updates, announcements, schedules, volunteer opportunities, and information about league improvements.
❤️ **Moving Forward Together**
We know we won't get every decision right, but every decision is made with the best interests of our players, families, and league in mind.
While we understand it is easy to make assumptions and not be happy about every decision, what many people don't see are the countless volunteer hours spent attending meetings, working through decisions, coordinating schedules, maintaining fields, working concessions, seeking sponsorships, applying for grants, handling paperwork, and solving problems behind the scenes.
We are committed to transparency, improvement, and building a league our community can be proud of. All we ask in return is that you maintain the integrity of our community and do not slander anyone, including our board members (in person or online) and if you have a complaint, please bring it to us. We are all approachable and respectable people. See us in person, message us here, or contact us on Band. We are happy to speak with you in the correct, respectful manner that we all deserve. Thank you for your support, your patience, and your belief in what we're working to build for our kids.
The future of PVYSL is bright, and we're excited for what's ahead.
