UIL Region III XC Championship 2024

What went down?
This past Monday, UIL hosted the regional cross country meet for region III in Huntsville at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park. Different classifications ranging from 2A-6A raced at this meet. I will only be covering the 2A races from this meet. Many fast times were run on this course! 2A was the first classification to race this year with an 8:15AM start time for these races. For the 2A girls race a new team regional champion was crowned! That team was Hawkins and close behind them was Douglass. As for the 2A boys, New Summerfield has come back on top and done so by defeating Tenaha who has taken the regional title home 4 years in a row.

Top Performers
Girls: Some fast times were run on this course for both races! The girls side saw a couple of dominating performances. Notably Cara Sims of Elysian Fields won the region with a blazing fast time of (11:23). She is a Junior and appears to be one of the best runners of class 2A. Another notable time was Yarida DeLeon of Chilton. She ran (12:31) and had some improvement of her time and placement based on last year’s race Third for the girls was Kylie Adams with a time of (12:45).

Boys: The boy’s side had some very fast times this year! The individual winner this year was Andres Landaverde of Corrigan-Camden. He ran (16:23) on a tough 1-mile looped course! Second place from Waskom was Victor Bravo with a time of (16:36) and the third-place finisher was Caddel Keeling of Centerville with a time of (16:45). Each of these finishers were not in the top 3 last year, which goes to show how this region has some new contenders!

2A Girls 2 Mile Run
