Oakleaf's Para Dressage

Oakleaf's Para Dressage I am a paradressage Rider. I currently ride a KWPN gelding, Nico. I am training for international. I was so sick that I barely remember the 2009 show.

I am a Paraequestrian Rider that started as a Para rider in 2007. Goals and Aspirations:
- 2024 Paralympics
- 2022 World Equestrian Games

Information:
I ride a KWPN Gelding, out of Johnson x Ulrich, whom we call Bacca. He has a good soul and he is a newer prospect that we are introducing in 2020. I am honored to be riding this horse and waiting to see what the year holds for him. This sport take

s a tremendous amount of dedication and love, but it is all worth it to look into the eyes of these wonderful animals! A bit of History on me:

In 2001, I had a Guillian-Barre Attack (GBS) that paralyzed me from neck down from a flu shot. I did get use of my arms within a couple months, but it was almost 2 years before I could walk again. I was later to be diagnosed with CIDP, basically a chronic form of GBS. In 2008, I got diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma which put a bit of a halt to my international aspirations. I was fighting what seemed a losing battle in 2008 and went onto hospice in 2009. I did go the Nationals both those years and in 2008 was in the top 10 and in 2009, I was in the top 5 in my grade. My goal was to keep following my dreams with hopes to one day qualify for the Paralympics.

“The Day I Decided to Rise Again”

There was a moment — quiet, unremarkable, easy to miss —
when I chose to stop surviving and start rebuilding.

After illness took so much from me, I felt like a ghost inside my own body.
Weakened. Heavier. Unsure.
My confidence slipped through my fingers like loose reins in a storm.

But one day I woke up and whispered to myself,
“Not like this. Not anymore.”

At TeamWork Dressage, in the calm guidance of Jules’ voice,
I began the slow work of rising.
Of losing weight, regaining strength, rebuilding trust in my body…
and remembering that I am still a trainer, a coach, and a rider.

I am still an athlete.
And I am coming back stronger.

Every ride is a promise to myself:
I’m not done climbing.
And I’m lucky to climb with a team behind me—
for fueling the foundation,
for nourishing my athletes,
for shaping every stride.
for helping my horses recover in comfort,
for keeping us balanced and dancing.
for keeping my athletes feet in good shape
for helping my athletes feet stay healthy

Congratulations on your new appointment Sophie!

Sophie Christiansen CBE has been elected to the ParalympicsGB board where she will help the organisation continue to champion change.

“I have used my platform as a gold medallist to become a disability advocate, just as ParalympicsGB is championing change for disabled people across the UK, so to help keep pushing those boundaries is a great honour,” said Sophie.

This year has been quite a journey filled with numerous changes. I've experienced my fair share of highs and lows, but amidst it all, I've forged many new friendships and connections.

My trainer and friend, Jules Anderson, along with Libby Anderson, have stood by me through both the ups and downs.

I've kept a low profile for much of this year, as I faced health challenges last year that I thought I had overcome, only to discover there were more hurdles to navigate.

I'm looking forward to stepping into the show ring in March with my incredible horse, Nico. During this time, I've begun collaborating with two fantastic individuals—one, Sidney Snow, is already graded and will be moving here soon, and the other is someone I’ve decided to co-own a horse with. I’m filled with excitement for what 2025 holds and am grateful to everyone who has supported me through this journey. We are finally nearing the end of these challenges, and I feel truly honored and humbled by the wonderful people in my life, both new and old.

Jules and I are looking forward to helping both these new riders achieve their goals and dreams. Will see everyone soon in the ring!

A special shoutout to:
