Irrigon Varsity Knights Fall To Sherman After Late Score

Irrigon Varsity Knights stayed in it until the end, but Sherman pulled away late in a 5-4 victory on Tuesday. The game was tied at four in the top of the eighth when Cael Bish singled, scoring one run.
Sherman got on the board in the top of the first inning after Gage Simpson singled down the left field line, and Eli Picard grounded out, each scoring one run.
Irrigon Varsity Knights tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a walk by Colton Akers, and a hit by a pitch.
A single by Kodi Maris gave Irrigon Varsity Knights the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth.
Sherman took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Drake Dark grounded into a fielder's choice, and Simpson singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Sherman committed an error, which helped Irrigon Varsity Knights tie the game at four in the bottom of the seventh.
Simpson earned the win for Sherman. The reliever gave up four hits and two runs (one earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking three. The hurler surrendered four hits and two runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Dark led things off on the mound for Sherman. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking none.
Garcia went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Irrigon Varsity Knights in hits. Maris, Erik Covarrubia, and Akers each drove in one run for Irrigon Varsity Knights. Aiden Wells and Zach Parton each stole multiple bases for Irrigon Varsity Knights. Irrigon Varsity Knights ran wild on the base paths, accumulating nine stolen bases for the game.
Sherman piled up nine hits in the game. Simpson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sherman with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Bish, Sherman's number eight hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Picard collected two hits for Sherman in four at bats. Sherman turned one double play in the game.
