Irrigon Varsity Knights Come Up Short Against St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos

Irrigon Varsity Knights lost to St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos 7-2 on Monday.

St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Peyton Alloway singled, scoring one run, Wyatt Smith doubled, scoring two runs, and Hudson Wyss singled, scoring one run.

Alloway earned the win for St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos. The righty allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking three. Rene Garcia pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Irrigon Varsity Knights. The pitcher allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) while, striking out four and walking none. Cody Johnson started on the bump for Irrigon Varsity Knights. The starter gave up five hits and four runs over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one.

Colton Akers and Zach Parton were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Irrigon Varsity Knights. Hunter Bowman led Irrigon Varsity Knights with one hit in three at bats. Bowman stole two bases.

St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos collected 10 hits in the game. Bricen Britten and Brennan Boyd each collected two hits for St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos. Smith led St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos with two runs batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Boyd stole two bases. St. Paul Varsity Buckaroos stole six bases in the game.

Irrigon Varsity Knights Fall To Sherman After Late Score

Irrigon Varsity Knights stayed in it until the end, but Sherman pulled away late in a 5-4 victory on Tuesday. The game was tied at four in the top of the eighth when Cael Bish singled, scoring one run.

Sherman got on the board in the top of the first inning after Gage Simpson singled down the left field line, and Eli Picard grounded out, each scoring one run.

Irrigon Varsity Knights tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a walk by Colton Akers, and a hit by a pitch.

A single by Kodi Maris gave Irrigon Varsity Knights the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth.

Sherman took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Drake Dark grounded into a fielder's choice, and Simpson singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Sherman committed an error, which helped Irrigon Varsity Knights tie the game at four in the bottom of the seventh.

Simpson earned the win for Sherman. The reliever gave up four hits and two runs (one earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking three. Rene Garcia pitched five innings in relief for Irrigon Varsity Knights. The reliever allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) while, striking out three and walking one. Maris took the loss for Irrigon Varsity Knights. The hurler went one inning, allowing one run on two hits, striking out one and walking none. Cody Johnson opened the game for Irrigon Varsity Knights. The hurler surrendered four hits and two runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Dark led things off on the mound for Sherman. The pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking none.

Garcia went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Irrigon Varsity Knights in hits. Maris, Erik Covarrubia, and Akers each drove in one run for Irrigon Varsity Knights. Aiden Wells and Zach Parton each stole multiple bases for Irrigon Varsity Knights. Irrigon Varsity Knights ran wild on the base paths, accumulating nine stolen bases for the game.

Sherman piled up nine hits in the game. Simpson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sherman with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Bish, Sherman's number eight hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Picard collected two hits for Sherman in four at bats. Sherman turned one double play in the game.

Irrigon Varsity Knights will travel to Grant Union for their next game on Friday.
