DSS&A 2nd Sub in HO Scale This site shows the continuing progress on the layout I started building August 2022. The Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic Railroad began in Duluth MN, across N.

Wisconsin and ended in Sault Ste. Marie MI. It was absorbed by the SOO Line in 1961.

I think I have chosen the prints of Channing that I will be using for the backdrop. Here's three of them. I could use some constructive criticism. Besides some the edges that don't quite flow together, something seems a little off. Like maybe the scale. Maybe I should reduce them down to 3/4 size?

It was a nice day to drive up north to Channing and take photos for a backdrop on the layout. I chose around 1:00 because the sun would just be starting to be behind my back. I took two cameras to see which one took the clearest photos. Starting at one end of town I walked along M-95, taking pictures as I walked. For a gauge, I tried to keep the yellow line on the highway at the same place in each photo.

It is going to be a big job to photoshop out all the modern post 1950's vehicles and satellite TV antennas. That will be an excellent job for a rainy day.

Working on the backdrop scene today. I cut away the sky on the photographs. Hope to get this portion of the layout done ...

It seemed like a good time to put up some fascia along the edge of the layout. I bought a 4x8 sheet of Masonite, cut it in 8” wide strips and carried them downstairs.
