SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: #12 RYAN SUHY

4 YEARS. 3 LETTERS. ONE LASTING LEGACY.

Today we recognize senior Ryan Suhy, who has dedicated the last four years to Independence Football and has worked tirelessly to leave this program better than he found it.

A three-year varsity letter winner, Ryan has made his mark on Independence Football through his commitment, work ethic, and willingness to do whatever it takes to make this team better.

But what truly separates Ryan isn’t just his accomplishments on the football field. It’s the pride he takes in this program and his commitment to making those around him better.

Throughout his four years, Ryan has put in the work to become the player and leader he is today. His dedication to our offseason weight room program earned him two Weight Room Warrior awards and the responsibility of serving as an offseason weight room captain. That same commitment earned him the honor of being named a 2026 TEAM CAPTAIN.

Ryan has truly embraced that role, understanding that leadership is about more than a title. He has taken pride in showing our younger players how to practice, how to prepare, and what it means to represent Independence Football the right way.

Ryan came into this program four years ago determined to make an impact, and he has worked every day to leave Independence Football in a better place than when he arrived. That is what leaving a legacy is all about.

Ryan, thank you for everything you’ve given to Independence Football. Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to this program have helped build the foundation for our future. The example you’ve set will continue to make an impact long after your final snap.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: #33 MAVERICK DURDEN

4 YEARS. 3 LETTERS. 3 YEARS STARTING. ONE INCREDIBLE LEGACY.

Today we recognize senior Maverick Durden, who has been a cornerstone of Independence Football throughout his four years in the program.

A three-year letter winner and three-year starter at both running back and linebacker, Mav has established himself as one of the most dominant players on the field. His hard work and performance have earned him some impressive honors:

🏆 1st Team All-District Linebacker
🏆 3rd Team All-Ohio Linebacker
🏆 3-Year Varsity Letter Winner
🏆 3-Year Starter at RB & LB

But what truly separates Maverick isn’t just what he’s accomplished on Friday nights. It’s the work he’s put in when nobody is watching.

Mav has been the definition of dedication to our program. From attending every offseason lift to becoming our FIRST-EVER OFFSEASON GENERAL, he has consistently set the standard for what it means to be an Independence Blue Devil.

Mav hasn’t just been a great football player. He’s been a leader, a teammate, and an example for every younger player coming through our program. His commitment, toughness, and willingness to put in the work have helped shape the culture we’re building.

Today we recognize senior Shane Korinek, who has been an important part of Independence Football throughout his four years in the program.

A three-year varsity letter winner, Shane has made his mark on this program through his relentless work ethic, dedication, and the energy he brings every single day.

Shane is the heartbeat of our team’s energy. From the moment he steps onto the field, he brings the JUICE! Whether it’s a big play on Friday night, a tough practice, or an early morning lift, Shane’s enthusiasm is contagious. He has a unique ability to bring his teammates together, raise the intensity, and make everyone around him better.

His commitment to our offseason weight room program has been just as impressive. A two-time Weight Room Warrior and offseason weight room captain, Shane has consistently demonstrated what it means to show up, put in the work, and lead by example.

That combination of DEDICATION, ENERGY, and LEADERSHIP earned Shane the honor of being named a 2026 TEAM CAPTAIN, a recognition of the respect he’s earned from his teammates and coaches.

Shane, thank you for everything you’ve given to Independence Football. Your passion for the game, commitment to your teammates, and the energy you bring every day have made a lasting impact on our program. You’ve shown our younger players that leadership isn’t just about what you say, but about the attitude and effort you bring every single day.

A special thank you to Class of 2006 graduate Brad Stretar for coming out and speaking to our team before our Homecoming game against Beachwood!
