Email: [email protected] I bought my first bamboo gaff over 12 years ago, when it finally broke after 8 years of hard use, I looked at the walls of the bamboo and realized it was cheap thin walled bamboo, the kind you do not want to use for a gaff. Fast forward to 2011, this is when I researched bamboo gaffs and discovered it is Calcutta bamboo that west coast sportfishing boats have been usin

g for over a century and continue to use them to this day. Calcutta bamboo is light in the hands, has a slight flex to absorb the thrashing of a fish, and thick walled making it extremely strong. It truly makes the perfect gaff that floats too. I made myself a 6 foot Calcutta gaff and a friend for a new boat gift. This is when people started to see my gaffs and request one for themselves. This became a hobby for me, just like rod wrapping, making quality custom products that are handmade to last. I make every gaff, net, or rod as if it is for my own personal use. Today, I have made 100s of gaffs in all sizes and colors, as well as dip nets, bait nets, brailers, and crowder nets out of Calcutta bamboo. It's amazing to think that this all started from a broken gaff in 2011.

Every build starts with searching for the perfect piece of "Iron Cane", finding maybe 50/400 pieces that qualify.

Calcutta bamboo is legendary for its extra-thick walls, unmatched power & strength, but I only settle for the "golden piece"—the rare stalk that meets my strict requirements for straightness and strength. Notice the wall thickness vs. diameter.

​Once found, each piece is cut to perfectly match a specific gaff length and hook size.
