Flourish—From Ruins to Restoration Grief Life Coaching A safe and compassionate place for grieving Christian mamas to find support and hope~ I am here to help other moms through the devastation of losing a child.

Hi, I'm Michelle Knefelkamp, a certified life coach and child-loss survivor. I hope to help them begin to heal and eventually see them restored and flourishing in their life once again

Grief has a way of tightening the body.

😣 Many of us don’t even realize we’re holding our breath — or breathing much more shallowly — especially during stressful or emotional seasons.

If you’re able, try this gentle reset:
• Inhale slowly through your nose for 4
• Hold softly for 2
• Exhale through your mouth for 6, like a quiet sigh

You might place a hand on your chest or whisper a simple prayer on the exhale, “God is near, or "I trust You."

💎As the new year begins, I want to offer my support. For those who feel ready for steady, faith-centered support, I’ll be starting a small online grief support group on January 13 called Flourish.

A new year doesn’t mean a new version of you.
It doesn’t mean your grief has an expiration date.
It doesn’t mean you’re supposed to feel hopeful or healed by January 1.
It simply means time keeps moving — even when your heart is still catching up.
For moms who want support walking into this next season with faith and honesty, I’ll be opening a small grief support group starting January 13.
No pressure. No fixing. Just steady support for the road ahead.
Maybe you will join me...

How is everyone feeling? The news is full of the latest tragedies.
I know it's been a lot lately. (the recent flooding, specifically.)
💔So many grieving people
experiencing the trauma of losing loved ones.
So many questions,
that join our own...
Why God?
💔How are we supposed to hold up under these
heartbreaking circumstances?
💔Sometimes it seems easier and necessary to ignore the pain and sorrow happening all around the world.
It's too much to add to our own pain and suffering. As bad news threatens to overwhelm us, we become emotionally numb.
❌This is known as a state of "compassion fatigue." Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as: apathy or indifference toward the suffering of others as the result of overexposure to tragic news stories and images and the subsequent appeals for assistance.”
❤️You want to care, to feel the weight of other's pain and reach out with love...but you just don't have it in you.
❤️I want you to know that it's okay.
You are not expected to carry the weight of the world.
If needed, turn off the news for awhile.
When you hear of a tragedy, pray for God's mercy, provision, and grace to surround the victims.
And then let it go.
🔎Focus on what you can do to help those who are suffering
in your circle. Showing love and compassion to those around you
is enough for now.
And don't forget yourself. What are you doing to mend your broken heart? To show yourself compassion and care?
Maybe you are grieving also and it's all you can do to get out of bed some days.
But I encourage you to:
❤️‍🩹 Talk to Jesus about how you are feeling. He cares.
❤️‍🩹 Open your Bible to the Psalms and let the lamenting of David speak to you.
❤️‍🩹 Pick up your phone and text someone you know who is safe and gentle with your sorrow.
❤️‍🩹 Take a walk in nature and marvel at the beauty of creation.
✅Just pick one.
It's easy to become overwhelmed with the state of the world, but remember that you didn't make it, you didn't break it, and you sure can't fix it!
🛑Rest in knowing that there is a competent God who is able to take what the enemy means for evil and turn it around for good.
Just like He's doing in your life.
He's big enough and full of enough love, mercy and compassion to reach the whole world.
You don't have to do it.
I’m praying for you during this heavy, challenging time, my friend.
Please, message me if you need some additional support. I’m here.

"They" remembered us! (whoever it is that decides that there should be days, or months designated for certain groups.)

Yes, it's nice to be recognized,
and some grieving parents may feel more seen or cared for
because there is a designated month for them.

So, thank you, for thinking of us...

But exactly what are we supposed to do
Now that everyone is "aware"?

⛔️ Do I need to wear a name tag that says,
"Hello, please be advised, I'm a grieving mama" to enhance everyone's awareness? (Because grieving parents are everywhere and yet you wouldn't know it because we hide our pain behind a mask of "I'm okay, thanks for asking.")

🎁 Should I make sure our family and friends know that it's bereaved parents month so they should be extra nice and gracious to me? (I know they try, but so often it feels like they are thinking, "come on, aren't you over it yet?")

🏖 Can I take the month off? (paid please😊)

😉 Maybe I can go in late to work and tell the boss that it's "Bereaved Parent's Month" so I might not make it in at all? (Grief makes it hard to get out of bed some days...this would solve that problem for a month!)

I'm not trying to be snarky...but it just seems a little weird to me.
Instead of just "awareness", how about:

✅"Let me talk about my child who has passed" month?
✅"Ask me questions about my missing child," month.
✅"Speak the name of my child who is no longer here on Earth," month?
My favorite:
✅ "Pray and cry with a grieving parent" month. 💗

And I suppose conversation around the topic of child loss is what they are trying to do with this designation - giving grieving parents a space to be seen and heard.

It's a good start, but somehow it falls flat for me. Sometimes I just get tired of words and sentiments.

I need more than awareness.

ℹ️I need someone to walk alongside of me on the dark, lonely days when I don't feel a lot of joy or hope.
ℹ️I need a steady, faithful friend or two who will be there, not just for a day or month, but years.
ℹ️I need some practical, tangible help and a lot of prayers so I can make it through this nightmare called child loss.
ℹ️Basically, I need someone to show up and love like Christ.

Does this ring true for you as well, or am I just being cynical?
Let me know your thoughts and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need someone to show up and walk with you...I'm here.

Do you feel like a shadow of your former self?
Child-loss has a way of stripping us down to the bones.
No energy,
No passion,
No life.

I know it's not easy, I've been where you are;
walked in those soggy boots.
Cold, lonely, looking for a ray of sunshine.
Hoping the storm will soon pass.

And the thing is...it eventually does.
Time will blow (sometimes gently, sometimes like a hurricane)through your life, making the harshest storm you have endured a thing you will talk about that happened to you
in the past.
Of course, reminders of days gone by with your child
will still hurt, and
Missing them will even cause you to pause in your busy day.
To be sure, you will be someone who is
forever marked by a tragic loss.

But eventually, you will begin to recognize yourself again.
Although altered in many ways because of the storm of grief
you have endured...
You will have survived.
A more weathered, wiser version of you may appear.
Amazingly, you may like this version better; this woman who steps out of the shadows.
She is more compassionate, more loving, less judgmental.
She knows pain, and can empathize and gently support
those who are hurting.

Because the truth is, you can miss your child desperately and
still love others fiercely.

Did you know that you can become both tougher AND softer
because of losing a child?
Or that you can become MORE, not less?
It's possible to not lose yourself completely in the shadows.

Start by forgiving. Forgive others, forgive yourself, and if necessary, forgive God.

Forgiveness is a practical step you can take today to begin your journey out of the shadows.

(If you struggle with forgiveness, please reach out...I can help).

Courageous mama, I'm praying for you.❤️‍🩹
