Hi All on the week of my 5th Marathon - I wanted to reach out to all of you. Have you ever wanted to get healthy? Fit in a different pair of pants? Run a 5k? No matter your fitness level or desire I would love you to be part of the Train 4 Autism NE ohio team. No fundraising is needed - and no pressure. Starting Jan 1 I will send emails, we will have group runs, and we can hold each other accountable. I will also set up teams for a local race in which we can all participate from 5k - full marathon. PLEASE dontthink there is pressure. It is really fun to be part of the group and you might just like it. So if your thinking about resolutions - this could be for you!

Not much fun to go to mailboxes now a days as it is usually just a bill. Today I smile from ear to ear.

I received a letter from Steve Bosso and Jill Earle along with checks for $1100 for train 4 autism. The letter went on to say how committed they are and they have also raised an additional $1200 from personal donations pages. It might be the best trip to the mailbox in quite sometime. I not only thank you both for your awesomeness but I simply applaud your efforts from the bottom of my heart. The entire autism community thanks you

Scientist, scholar, animal rights advocate and best-selling author Temple Grandin is autistic. She has been profiled on 20/20, ABC News, and NPR, and in the famous Oliver Sacks New Yorker profile, “An Anthropologist on Mars.”

Her newest work, Different…Not Less (2012) offers the world yet another inspiring and informative book that offers both hope and encouragement. Grandin presents the personal success stories of fourteen unique individuals that illustrate the extraordinary potential of those on the autism spectrum.

Temple Grandin’s 2005 book Animals in Translation was the culmination of 30 years of professional training as an animal scientist and an innate ability, born from her very handicap, to understand the animal brain. She states plainly: “I have one big advantage over the feedlot owners who hire me – being autistic. Autism made school and social life hard, but it made animals easy. I’m a visual thinker. Most people are verbal, but cattle are visual and so am I.”

Her autobiography, Thinking in Pictures: and Other Reports From My Life With Autism (1995) is a revealing look at autism from the inside. She describes her pain and isolation growing up “different” and her discovery of visual symbols to interpret the “ways of the natives”. Thinking In Pictures also provides information from the frontlines of autism, including treatments, medication, and diagnosis, as well as Temple’s insight into the other side of autism: savants, genius and alternative sensory phenomena.
