Today nova had a bit in for the first time! She did really good and did not freak out over it!!

I also worked with Royal today and we worked on some pivoting which she is a natural at! She didn’t step either her back pivot leg at all, just turned with that foot! And we worked on some side passing.

Nova and I placed 11th out of 40 in the youth handling class! We definitely could’ve done a lot better but I’m happy with what we got for my first time ever competing in an EMM and my first time training a horse!!🐴 Tomorrow we find out our results for the in hand pattern, freestyle, and the overall results!

Congratulations to Ashlyn Popiwczak for the win today!🤪

It’s been an interesting and busy last 60 hours! When we left Stephenville, the plan was one mustang for us and another for Kristi. However when we arrived back in Stephenville, it was one for Kristi and two for us and now we have another surprise in the making!!! Stay tuned!

We haven’t posted any progress photos in quite awhile because we were focusing on the next steps. Here is a small update video and some photos of Nova and her progress. She loves doing obstacles and does it with no complaints because of her trust.

As we approach day 45 and the halfway point of McKenna’s journey with Nova, we took some time for reflection. For anyone who makes that round trip journey to pick up a wild mustang it’s a long and tiring trip (1500 miles and 30 hrs for us) but good lord is it exciting.

Since joining the mustang community we have met some incredible people, everyone has been positive and helpful. This journey that McKenna is making with Nova has been fun, exciting, busy, hard, trying and nothing short of amazing, among other things. In particular, we have been embraced by Katie Ketterhagen and Craig Moore. Having the opportunity for us to learn from them has been enlightening, enjoyable and funny to say the least. Every week we visit with them and they provide incredible insight into ways that all of us can improve and help continue moving Nova to the next step. Sometimes we think we’ve progressed further than we have, and then we learn from them and see how much more we have to learn. They are very honest and constructive with all of us and it has been a blessing. Each time we see them it rejuvenates McKenna and helps us to keep pushing forward, and also settles us when we try to go too fast.

This week, one of the things we worked on was the handling and conditioning portion. As you will see, there is a lot that still needs to happen for the run to be considered clean and score well, however the ground work has been laid and this video clearly shows what needs to be worked on and will be a great tool for all of us to continue self evaluation.

Thank you for following 😀
