Shackleford Racing Report 🏁 — Racing for Dad

Today Rusty showed up by himself. No team, no Super Dave, and not much of the usual Shackleford Racing chaos.

He was late. He was quiet.

Rusty rolled out the Shackleford Racing Jägermeister BMW M1 #50 and the Liqui Moly Audi #8 for the shakedown. The M1 was struggling for traction, but with the crew given the weekend off, there wasn't much to be done.

So Rusty let it ride.

Today wasn't really about winning.

Today Rusty was racing for his dad.

Rusty lost his dad, Charles Slement, Wednesday evening. He originally wasn't going to race at all and told the team to take the weekend off. But sometimes sitting at home isn't where you need to be. Sometimes you need to be around friends, hear the motors, smell the track, and put a controller in your hand.

The first race was tough. With the M1 lacking traction and everyone racing door-to-door, there were a few interesting crashes and plenty of close calls. Rusty kept plugging away and brought it home in 4th place.

The second race was a little better. The car behaved, the racing was close, and Rusty managed to bring home a 3rd place.

But he really wasn't in the groove today.

And that's okay.

There wasn't much smack talk. No Super Dave jokes. No excuses. No blaming the radio calls or checking the grass on the side of the track.

Just racing.

My dad was a huge part of why motorsports became such a big part of my life. From his own involvement in racing, to becoming my crew chief when I started racing motocross, racing was something we shared.

So tonight, the finishing positions really didn't matter.

4th and 3rd — but this one was for Dad.

Shackleford Racing Report 🏁

Shackleford Racing arrived at the track armed with the Shackleford Racing BMW #16 and the fluorescent Highlighter Audi #99. Since the cars compete in different classes, Rusty was forced to follow the highly technical racing strategy known as “run what you brung.”

Both cars performed well during the shakedown. The Shackleford Special had received some attention in the workshop and was finally back on form. Unfortunately, Rusty was also “helped” out of his lane a few more times than necessary. But what goes around usually comes around—occasionally at full throttle!

Rusty placed the blame squarely on Super Dave and several highly questionable radio calls:

“Turn left!”

“Which left?”

“Never mind—you’ve already crashed.”

The racing was fast, furious, and a lot of fun. We are still witnessing some very creative interpretations of the rulebook, along with a few cars mysteriously running almost half a second quicker than everyone else.

Super Dave was most definitely nowhere near that pit area, and he absolutely did not have a screwdriver, a soldering iron, or a suspicious bag marked “performance-enhancing parts.”

At one point, four cars went door-to-door without anybody being sent out to inspect the length of the grass beside the track. A tremendous achievement by everyone involved!

After surviving the bad radio calls, mysterious speed advantages, and several unsolicited lane changes, Rusty brought it home in ninth place.

The second race was every bit as brutal. Positions changed constantly, the smack talk flowed freely, and the cars were all within a few tenths of one another. Nobody could relax, nobody could breathe, and nobody was willing to admit that the other bloke might actually be faster.

Super Dave was nowhere in sight—which, quite honestly, made everyone even more nervous.

Fast cars, close racing, questionable decisions, and plenty of laughs. Another successful outing for Shackleford Racing! 🏁Rusty finished 5th he was quite happy that

Last night’s racing was fantastic! These cars definitely need to be tamed before they’ll behave on the track—but that’s half the fun!

Shackleford Racing Report 🏁

Shackleford Racing arrived at the track today to find the cleanup crew, the minions get everything ready. By the time the team unloaded, the track was clean, prepared and already cooled down.

The weapons of choice were the mighty Jägermeister BMW M1 #1 and the VR46 Audi R8. The shakedown was quite revealing. The VR46 Audi still needs more development, as the pace and handling just weren’t quite there. It was rolled back into the trailer with a strongly worded list of improvements, leaving the mighty Jägermeister BMW M1 #1 to carry the Shackleford Racing flag.

Naturally, the Super Dave Guard was immediately put into effect, and the riot police were called in as backup. You can never be too careful when Super Dave may be lurking somewhere near a controller.

The lights went out, the track lit up and the heat was on!

As usual, the opening moments were a little up in the air—sometimes quite literally—with more argy-bargy than normal. Once everyone settled down, Rusty put the hammer down and took off. Unfortunately, he always seemed to find himself caught in the middle of another farming expedition. Cars were plowing through the scenery, mowing the grass and preparing the infield for next season’s crop.

Rusty may have started one or two of those agricultural adventures himself, but after a brief and completely unbiased investigation, it was decided that Super Dave was responsible for all of them.

With the blame officially assigned, Rusty pressed on and brought the Jägermeister BMW M1 #1 home for the win! 🏆

Shackleford Racing Report 🏁

END-OF-SEASON FUN RUN!

Rusty gave the Shackleford Racing crew the weekend off because the club cars were coming out to play. No tuning arguments, no last-minute repairs and—most importantly—nobody could blame the equipment on the team!

The first round featured the Scalextric GT cars. Two were fast, and the other two were apparently enjoying a leisurely Sunday drive. Three-minute heats really put the drivers to work, with controller cramp becoming the biggest threat in the paddock.

The racing was excellent, with plenty of close battles—and no sign of Super Dave. Rumor has it that the Cadillac F1 team offered him a position as a test driver. Unfortunately, they forgot to mention that he would be testing head-on collisions!

Enjoy the drive, Super Dave. Cadillac may want its crash-test dummy back.

After working through all the lanes, the victory came down to Kennonball Racing and Shackleford Racing. Kennonball Racing snatched the win by half a car length, leaving Rusty with a very close and well-earned second place.

The second race featured the club’s Scalextric LMP cars. It was another entertaining race, although the cars had very different ideas about what “equal performance” meant. Lane 2 also developed a braking problem, which made every corner more of a suggestion than an actual requirement.

By the end of the race, the Lane 2 car had blown up, and one of the GT cars was called back into service. Nothing says professional motorsport like grabbing the nearest surviving car and sending it back out!

Once all the lawn mowing, barrier inspections and emergency substitutions were completed, Rusty brought it home in fifth place.

A great way to finish the season—close racing, controller cramps, mechanical destruction and just enough chaos to make everyone wonder if Super Dave had somehow been involved remotely.

🏁 SHACKLEFORD RACING REPORT 🏁
SUPER DAVE OSBORN NASCAR SHOWDOWN — THE KEYS, THE FLAGS & THE CHAOS!

The Shackleford Racing team showed up ready for the Super Dave Osborn NASCAR Showdown.

There was just one small problem…

Someone left the KEYS TO THE TRACK AT HOME. 🔑🤦‍♂️

Nothing says professional motorsports like a bunch of grown men standing outside a locked racetrack wondering which genius has the keys. Rumor has it Super Dave immediately volunteered to help by checking every pocket in his jumpsuit. Twice.

Eventually civilization was restored and the team rolled out the Mello Yello Pontiac #42 and the legendary HO***RS Ford Underbird #7 for the shakedown.

Both cars ran well. The Underbird was definitely quicker, but the Pontiac seemed more reliable. With NASCAR survival usually being more important than outright speed, Rusty chose the #42 Pontiac.

In hindsight… there may have been an error in judgment. 😂

🚦 GREEN FLAG!

TURN ONE — CRASH! 💥

And just like that, the presence of The Super One was felt.

The rest of the race featured unexplained barrier inspections, aggressive paint trading, door banging and several drivers apparently checking whether the scenery had changed since last week.

It hadn't.

Then came reports that Super Dave was FLAGGING one of the turns. 🚩

This explained quite a bit.

Yellow when it should've been green.
Green when everyone was stopped.
Checkered flag somewhere around halfway.
And at one point we're fairly certain he was waving a tablecloth.

Nobody knew whether to race, stop, pit, evacuate the building or order dinner.

There is growing concern around the paddock that Super Dave hasn't been quite right since the Snake Canyon jump attempt. Doctors are reportedly still trying to determine whether the six-foot flight caused any permanent damage.

The doctors were reminded that they needed a pre-jump baseline before making that determination.

They immediately closed the case. 😂

🏁 RACE RESULT: RUSTY — 3RD PLACE! 🥉

For the final heat, Rusty decided to give the HO***RS Ford Underbird #7 a run.

And wouldn't you know it…

THE DAMN THING WAS FASTER. 🤦‍♂️

Rusty climbed out wondering why he hadn't raced it from the beginning.

Several important items have now been added to the Shackleford Racing pace notes for the next NASCAR race:

1. Bring the track keys. 🔑
2. Race the faster car.
3. Keep Super Dave away from the flags. 🚩
4. Barriers apparently do NOT need inspecting every lap.
5. Never underestimate the Underbird.
6. If Super Dave says, “I’ve got an idea,” PACK UP IMMEDIATELY.

Another podium for Shackleford Racing, another layer of paint missing from the cars, and another completely unnecessary chapter in the Super Dave Osborn Motorsports Safety Manual.
