We are the newest grassroots roller derby league in the South Houston region of Texas, proudly serving the Clear Lake, Webster, Pasadena, Seabrook, and surrounding communities. ler derby. HRDU is committed to creating an inclusive, empowering environment for youth and adults of all backgrounds to develop athletic skills, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth in a safe, supportive, and structured setting. We believe roller derby is more than a sport — it’s a platform for confidence, mentorship, volunteerism, and meaningful community engagement. As a newly growing and expanding league, Heartland Roller Derby Union is actively building adult and juniors programs aligned with the standards and competitive governance of the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) and JRDA (Junior Roller Derby Association), while also exploring the development of an MRDA-aligned Men’s program. We intend to pursue sanctioning pathways as we become eligible and are committed to collaborating with other leagues and organizations as we establish our presence in the region. We are recruiting skaters, referees, volunteers, and community partners who would love to connect, get involved, and be part of building something meaningful with us from the ground up. The Founding Hearts of Heartland 🛼

Heartland started with a simple idea: What if roller derby felt like home?

🖤 A place where beginners feel welcome.
🖤 Where adults and juniors grow in the sport together.
🖤 Where people leave practice stronger, more confident, and more connected than when they arrived.

That’s the vision we’re building - but building something meaningful takes a community.

So we’re launching something special: a limited edition Heartland shirt for the people helping us bring this league to life.

We’re calling them the FOUNDING HEARTS.

The Founding Hearts are the early supporters who believe in what Heartland can become and want to help us build it from the ground up.

Funds from these shirts will help support:

🛼 practice space
❤️ junior derby league development
🛼 training resources and equipment
❤️ building a strong, sustainable roller derby community

Each Founding Hearts shirt is $50, and this design will only be available during Heartland’s founding year.

Founding Hearts will also be recognized as part of Heartland’s founding story.

🖤 Meet Our New Coaches 🛼

Heartland is growing, and we’re so excited to welcome two incredible additions to our coaching team — **Ms. Ripper** and **Breaking Alice**.

**Ms. Ripper** will be joining our junior coaching team, where her passion for mentoring and youth development really shines. With over a decade of involvement in Girl Scouts and two years of coaching experience, she brings a strong foundation of leadership, encouragement, and care. Outside of derby, she loves traveling and spending time with her family — who are just as active and involved as she is.

**Breaking Alice** will be joining our advanced adults coaching team, bringing years of experience across multiple rulesets and a deep love for the sport. From starting as a junior with DDD to skating WFTDA with Houston Roller Derby, her journey has come full circle — and we’re so glad it led her to Heartland. Off the track, she’s busy creating homecoming mums, spending time with her family, and supporting the derby community alongside them.

Together, they bring not only experience, but heart, connection, and a shared commitment to building something special here at Heartland.

We’re so grateful to have them, and we can’t wait for our community to learn and grow with them. 🖤

We are stoked to announce that we are finally officially a nonprofit!!

This is an exciting milestone for Heartland and it opens up more opportunities for us as an organization! Most excitingly, our nonprofit status reduces the rental rate for our practice space, so two indoor practice days are now in the budget! Gone are the days of practice being cancelled due to rain!

Lots of love to everyone following along as we build this team from the ground up! Here's to more exciting things to come 😎
