It’s time to SPRING FORWARD again! Daylight Saving Time officially starts tonight/tomorrow - Sunday, March 11, at 2:00am. Here are some tips for springing your clocks forward...
MOVE ONLY THE MINUTE HAND on your clocks to change the time.
DO NOT MOVE THE HOUR HAND. There are a few exceptions to this but changing the time as described below will work, too.
FOR WESTMINSTER CHIMING CLOCKS (antique or modern - grandfather, wall, mantle): When moving the minute hand forward, it is important to allow the clock to chime every quarter hour (1/4, ½, ¾, 1) before advancing the hand to the next quarter hour position. Do not move the hand while the clock is chiming or striking.
FOR STRIKE-ONLY CLOCKS (antique or modern): When moving the minute hand forward, it is important to allow the clock to strike at the half-hour and hour before advancing the hand to the next half hour position. Do not move the hand while the clock is chiming or striking.
FOR CUCKOO CLOCKS: When moving the minute hand forward, it is important to allow the clock to cuckoo at the half-hour and hour before advancing the hand to the next half hour position. You must wait for the cuckoo to finish but you may proceed to the next half hour while the music is playing (if you have music). The music will be interrupted but that is ok.
FOR BATTERY-OPERATED QUARTZ CLOCKS: If you have access to the button on the quartz movement, you may turn it forward from there. If not, use only the minute hand to move the time forward being extremely careful to not drag the hour hand as this could permanently damage your movement.
