Fifteen seasons in, and I’m heading into this one a little differently.
When my doctor told me, “Courtney, this season you may just need to tell your friends to move on without you,” it crushed me.
But as opening day gets closer, I’m finding a little peace with it.
I don’t need to prove to myself that I can walk the miles, climb the mountains, make the shot, train the dog, fill the limit or chase the next bucket-list bird. I’ve done those things, and I know I’ll do plenty of them again.
This season means going when I can, where I can, with whichever dog can.
Walking a little slower. Taking more breaks. Letting a few more birds fly. Sitting on the tailgate a little longer. Being grateful for every day I get to go.
No boxes to check. Just wild birds, bird dogs, and the mornings we wait all year for.
Season fifteen. I’m still pretty damn excited for you. 💜🧡
