Homer-Center Boys Take Third, Girls Eighth at District VI Championships
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Homer-Center boys and girls swim teams delivered strong performances at the PIAA District VI Swimming and Diving Championships, held February 20–21 at Penn State University’s McCoy Natatorium. The Wildcat boys placed third overall in the team standings, while the girls finished eighth, capping off a successful postseason showing highlighted by podium finishes, personal bests, and a flurry of record-breaking swims.
The boys’ team was powered by a deep lineup that consistently scored in individual and relay events. Landon Shoup turned in a standout meet, placing third in the 200 individual medley and fourth in the 500 freestyle, while Trevor Cameron earned runner-up honors in the 100 butterfly and added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke. Brady Frazer also contributed multiple top finishes, placing fourth in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke. The Wildcats’ relays were equally strong, with the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams that included Frazer, Shoup, Cameron, and Blake Lucas each finishing second to provide key points in the team race.
On the girls’ side, senior Morgan Nagy led the way with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Maria Frazer added important points with a sixth-place showing in both the 200 and 500 freestyles, while the Wildcats’ relays also dropped time and scored points. The relay team of Nagy, Frazer, Natalia Thomas, and Andrea Kravestky finished eighth in the 200 Medley Relay and seventh in the 400 freestyle relay. Despite only having four girls, the team’s efforts helped secure an eighth-place finish against a competitive field.
A major highlight of the meet was a wave of record-breaking performances for the boys’ program. Several school records fell over the two-day competition, including Brady Frazer lowering marks in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 100 breaststroke. Cameron set new program standards in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, while Shoup broke records in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. The record-setting swims underscored the program’s growth and the athletes’ ability to peak at the right time in the postseason.
In addition to the records, numerous Wildcats turned in personal best performances, combining for an impressive 63 seconds of total time drops across the meet. Nathaniel Bilo led the charge with more than five seconds shaved off his 200 freestyle and another two seconds in the 100 freestyle. Trevor Cameron delivered major improvements as well, cutting five seconds in the 100 butterfly and three seconds in the 100 backstroke. Brady Frazer added multiple drops of his own, highlighted by a 3.5-second improvement in the 100 breaststroke. On the distance side, Maria Frazer recorded the biggest drop of the meet, slashing nearly 14 seconds from her 500 freestyle, while Blake Lucas trimmed over two seconds in the 200 freestyle and seven seconds in the 500. Landon Shoup also posted standout improvements, dropping nearly eight seconds in the 200 individual medley and five seconds in the 500 freestyle.
With podium finishes, record-breaking swims, and dozens of lifetime bests, the District VI Championships marked another milestone for the Homer-Center program. The Wildcats combined veteran leadership with emerging young talent to deliver one of the strongest postseason showings in recent memory. As the echoes of the final cheers faded inside McCoy Natatorium, the performances in the pool made one thing clear: the foundation is firmly in place for continued success in the seasons ahead.
