6 weeks. One journey. One goal, take control back.

Last week I officially started cognitive therapy at the VA for chronic pain. The goal isn’t pretending the pain doesn’t exist. The goal is teaching my body and mind that it’s ok to hurt… but the pain doesn’t get to control me anymore.

Today’s challenge was simple on paper:
Wake up at a hotel and actually use the gym instead of making excuses.

Mission accomplished.

Got in the workout. Got uncomfortable. Got better.

I’m sore. I’m tired. But honestly? The feeling of fulfillment and momentum outweighs all of it right now. I feel motivated to attack the day instead of surviving it.

This 6-week journey isn’t just about fitness or disc golf conditioning. It’s about rebuilding trust in myself physically and mentally.

Small wins matter.
Consistency matters.
Showing up matters.

Real practice. Real progress.

This past weekend I got to see my amazing sponsor, Mellow Disc Golf, host their first official A-Tier.

For those who may not know that’s no small feat. It takes a ton of work behind the scenes, and Mellow made it look effortless.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there due to prior obligations, but I was definitely cheering on Katie & Roger, along with my Team Mellow family who competed.

Mellow may still be the “new kid” in disc golf, coming up on just two and a half years since opening their doors, but they’ve already set the standard for what it means to support and grow the disc golf community.

I’m proud to be part of this team, and even more proud of the work Katie & Roger continue to put in, both in the shop and out in the community.

Real practice. Real progress.

Last Saturday was one I won’t forget.

I teed it up at the qualifier presented by on a course I had never played before at Busch Creek. Add in steady winds, and it was a true test from the first throw.

Round 1 was all about playing smart and managing what I didn’t know yet. That inexperience showed at times especially on Hole 5. Blind downhill, trusted it a little too much, and watched my disc disappear into the creek. Walked away with a bogey and a reminder: this course demands respect.

Even getting to the back 9 was an adventure crossing slick boulders with water still moving from the rain. Then came the woods. Mud everywhere. Tough footing. On 18, the basket sat on top of a muddy hill… and I lost my footing and slid about 20 feet down on my knees. Not exactly how you draw it up.

Finished Round 1 at +9… still holding a 2-stroke lead.

After the break, it was time to attack.

I came out hot, birdie on 7 (only one on the card), and through 8 holes I went: 4 birdies, 3 pars, 1 double.

Then it happened.

Back to Hole 5, the same one that took my disc earlier.

This time, I stepped up with a standstill shot and my Watt. Clean release. Felt perfect. But I couldn’t see it finish. I’m jumping, trying to catch a glimpse…

Then we hear it.

Chains.

And Jess (Doug’s wife) yells, “IT’S IN!”

I took off running down the hill, yelling like a kid, and there it was my orange Watt sitting in the basket.

My first career ace. In a tournament. At a qualifier.

No ace pot for me, but I’ll take the CTP and the MVP hat all day. And more importantly, the moment. Got the photos with the card, locked it in forever.

Finished the round, took 1st place by 12 strokes, and carded my second 900-rated round ever.

That’s a weekend.

Huge shoutout to my 2026 sponsors for the support,
this journey keeps getting better.

Now it’s time to recover… and get ready to do it all again this Saturday.

Let’s keep building.

If you haven’t started yet, you can still go back and throw previous rounds and get yourself on the leaderboard. You’re not behind you’re just getting started.

This is where putting gets real:
Track your stats
Build true consistency
Compete against players from anywhere
See your progress round after round

No excuses. No travel. Just you, your putter, and the reps.

If you’ve been wanting to improve your putting but needed structure and accountability, this is it. Step up, log your rounds, and start stacking progress.

Real practice. Real progress.

But adding more movement before you have control usually creates inconsistency.

Standstill throws force you to learn balance.
They force you to control your release.
And that’s how clean form is built.

If you can’t throw clean standing still, adding steps won’t fix it.

Form first. Speed later.

Real practice. Real process.

But if the hole doesn’t demand max distance, a putter is often the smarter play.

Putters fly slower, straighter, and land softer. That means fewer big misses, fewer surprise skips, and more controlled tee shots.

Distance is exciting.
Control lowers scores.

But most players waste energy gathering discs instead of focusing on reps.

sent me the Pluck-Stik to test out, and it’s become part of my practice routine. It cuts out unnecessary bending and keeps more energy where it belongs, on your throws.

Putters are lower speed discs designed for control, straight flight, and softer landings. That makes them ideal for short approaches, low ceiling shots, safe scoring plays, and situations where skipping would cost you strokes.

Understanding disc purpose makes disc choice simple.

New video on YouTube, link in bio. Video is about: Ever notice how putters tend to fly straighter than drivers?

That’s not an accident. Putters are lower speed discs designed for control, accuracy, and softer landings. They don’t skip as much, and they hold their line longer on shorter throws.

Understanding how disc design affects flight makes the game simpler.

Real practice. Real process.
