Your stats are important, but they are not everything. Everyone wants to average 20 points per game, but not everyone will have a role to do so.

So how can you get recruited without having impressive averages? Iโ€™m glad you asked! You focus on your efficiency. Efficient means achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort.

College coaches want players who are efficient. They would rather recruit and coach someone who averages 12 ppg and shoots 50% from the field than a player who averages 17ppg and shoots 37% from the field.

Some keys to being a more efficient player:

1. Take care of the ball. Reduce the number of turnovers you have. The more possessions your team has the better chance to win the game.

2. Have good shot selection. Instead of focusing on shots you can make, focus on shots you canโ€™t miss. Each person has different skills, but free throws, layups, and open 3โ€™s are the most efficient shots in todayโ€™s game.

3. Move with purpose. Run the floor. Set hard screens. Sprint to screen, cut hard with intent, and do everything with a purpose. Being purposeful will give you opportunities to be efficient.

4. Decision-making. Understanding the game and making the best possible decisions will allow you to be the most efficient player, which will also lead to your team being successful.
