Last Thursday we played Thompson at HHS and it was a tale of 2 very different games. I apologize in advance for the long post.

5th grade battled all game and with around 1:30 left, Macy Theis entered the gsme. On the first defensive position she stole the ball, did a perfect jump stop just inside the free throw line, & banked in the shot to put us up by 1! The girls played solid team defense all game, but really stepped it up in the 4th quarter!!! In the final timeout huddle with 8 seconds to go, I asked the court players, "Do u want to go for the steal & end this? - yes! Then you have to HAVE EACH OTHERs back on defense! The standout of the game goes to our Team Defense! Final score 15-13 Hillsboro!

6th grade was tough against a very good & athletic Thompson team. We got down early and never recovered. Our help defense took a vacation and we lost focus on the court and on the bench. Poor body language, not helping each other, & we were just lost in general. Post game talk was rough. Not because of the score, but due to the lack of intensity & effort. We had a few bright spots with girls who never gave up on their teammates & gave it 100%. Final score 44-8.

In practice last night, the girls did a good job of reflection on their issues from the Thompson game. We also tried something new at practice with visuals up on a TV screen w/ group discussion and really good questions. We focused on the "why" & concepts for spacing, plays, & defense.

- 9/30 Tues practice HEC @ 3:30
- 10/2 Thurs Game vs Mayville HHS @ 4:00
- 10/3 Friday practice HEC @ 3:30
- 10/4 Saturday Jamboree (5th in Northwood, 6th in CV)

GAME DAY!!!!!

Thursday we have practice at the HEC at 3:30. Practice will just be 1 hour so will be done at 4:30. If parents csn have kids picked up right at 4:30, I'd like to watch Lydia's volleyball match in CV. Our BB schedule usually conflicts with VB enough that we don't get to watch her.

It's always fun when we get to play against our Central Valley friends & yesterday's game showed that!

The 5th grade team battled all game and we played some of our best team basketball of the season! Going into the 4th quarter, we were tied 10-10. With under 2 mins to go, we were down 4 but came up just a bit short this time. Final score 10-14.

6th grade also played a great game & their tenacious Help Defense made things hard for CV's post player all game long!! Our transition passing was amazing, creating a lot of opportunities! Final score 22-12

As a team, we've been working really hard on our ball handling, passing, & help defense. We're now about halfway through the season & the work they're putting in is showing!!

The girls all battled hard in Thompson on Thursday!

5th grade was down by 2 going into the 4th quarter but we couldn't find the bottom of the net. Final score 18-10.

6th grade had a tough match at against a very talented Thompson team. We struggled to keep their 2 tall girls off the boards and were down 29-9 at half. Thats a tough feeling mentally & physically, but the girls never gave up and held Thompson to 4 points in the 2nd half!! Layla Redland had another tough defensive assignment on their best player, and the help defense was much better in the 2nd half. Final score 33-13.

5th grade girls had a physical game against Hatton today at the HS, winning 12-0. We missed several contested layups in transition but can build on that. Really good team help defense again, allowing us to shoot the passing lanes for those chances! In a day when they all played great, Macy Theis was our defensive standout. Amazing help defense, allowing her teammates to be aggressive on the perimeter!

6th grade had a tough go right out of the gate against a really good Hatton team. They ran hard, had really good defense, and we struggled to keep their big girl contained. Our biggest takeaway from the game was needing to play better help defense and execute our plays. With most of the girls being pretty new to basketball, this is an expected growing pain but they give it their all, and you can't teach that. Good things to come for this group! We had 3 different 5th graders play up this week to get them some experience with the older kids.

Hadley & Kenzie did a great job coaching and prepping the girls for their turns on the court. So much of the game is situational, & being able to count on them for that is so huge!

Next game THURSDAY @ Thompson 4:15!
