Menstrual Awareness Day is more than a date on the calendar.
It is a remembrance. A reclamation. A return to honoring the sacred intelligence carried within the female body.

For thousands of women around the world, this day represents the breaking of silence around cycles, pain, shame, blood, hormones, fertility, menopause, and the deep emotional landscapes women have carried alone for far too long.

It is a day to recognize that menstruation is not a weakness, inconvenience, or something to hide. It is a vital sign of health, a rhythm connected to nature, intuition, creativity, and the ancient wisdom of womanhood itself.

Across generations, many women were taught to disconnect from their bodies, to push through exhaustion, suppress emotion, and feel embarrassment around their cycle. Menstrual Awareness Day invites us to change that story.

Today we honor:
🌹 the young maiden experiencing her first moon
🌹 the mother navigating the demands of womanhood
🌹 the women healing painful relationships with their bodies
🌹 the elders who carry the wisdom of many cycles
🌹 the women without access to menstrual care and education
🌹 the voices courageously bringing these conversations back into the light

This movement is growing because women everywhere are remembering that their bodies are not problems to fix, they are sacred landscapes to listen to.

May we continue creating spaces where girls and women feel informed, supported, celebrated, and deeply connected to the power of their own cycles.

When women understand their bodies, they begin to understand their power.

Happy Menstrual Awareness Day to the thousands of women around the world reclaiming the sacredness of their blood, their bodies, and their voice.

In 2020, Agnes joined the Sacred Menarche Facilitator Training online all the way from Latvia, a small country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe

She was one of the karma spot recipients that year.

Since then, she has beautifully woven these teachings into her Red Tent women’s work within her own community and later created a gorgeous first moon ceremony for her daughter beneath an apple tree.

To witness these teachings ripple across oceans, into families, circles, and the lives of young women… is something I will never stop being humbled by.

This work is not only about ceremony.

It is about restoring reverence, storytelling, cyclical wisdom, and meaningful rites of passage back into our communities.

For the mothers. For the women weavers. For the doulas, educators, guides, therapists, and ceremony keepers who feel called to support the next generation differently.

Learn the art of ceremony, storytelling, and sacred witnessing, Sacred Menarche Facilitator Training begins May 28 ✨

How do/did you refer to your monthly cycle?
Your rag? Your period? Your moon? Your bleed? 🌙

Were you taught to honor rest and self-care during that time… or taught to push through it?
Were you placed on birth control young before understanding your natural rhythm?

Many women were never guided through this threshold with reverence, understanding, or support.
Instead, their first bleed was often met with silence, shame, confusion, or the feeling that they simply had to figure it out alone.

But rites of passage matter.

The way a young woman is welcomed into womanhood can shape how she relates to her body, intuition, emotions, and cycles for the rest of her life.

This work is for the mothers, mentors, doulas, educators, therapists, guides, and women weavers longing to hold this transition differently for the next generation.

Learn to guide meaningful rites of passage and ceremonies for girls and women, we begin for a four week period in virtual community worldwide on menstrual awareness day- May 28🌙

The story of Vasilisa is one I return to often when sitting in circle with young women.

A story shared so beautifully by my most treasured maestra, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés Reyes, reminding us that intuition is not something outside of us, but something ancient living deep within the body.

In the tale, Vasilisa is given a small doll by her mother before she dies. A wise inner companion. A guide. She is told to feed it, listen to it, trust it.

How many of us were taught the opposite?

To doubt the ache in our stomach.
To silence the voice that whispered “something isn’t right.”
To override instinct in order to be polite, agreeable, desired, or accepted.

In our Sacred Menarche circles, we share stories like this with girls because intuition is a survival tool… and a sacred inheritance.

We worked with corn husks, inspired by the deep symbolism of corn in Mexican culture. Corn as life giver. Corn as grandmother medicine. Corn as memory carried through generations.

Using the husks, we retold the story of Vasilisa and the teachings of the inner knowing. The girls created small ceremonial pieces with their hands while listening to the story unfold, learning that their bodies speak, their instincts matter, and their inner voice deserves to be trusted.

We tell these stories early so they remember later.

Before the world teaches them to abandon themselves.🌽✨ Join me on May 28th as we come together as women around the world to learn how to host Sacred Menarche ceremonies for the young women in your community. All details are in my bio above..
