Statement from the HKL Board
This morning, we woke to the deeply troubling news that now-former Commissioner Scott Bader had been arrested in connection with allegations of conduct that is illegal and unbecoming of anyone serving as a representative of HKL.
As a Board, we acted swiftly and decisively to remove Scott from his position. This decision was made with the full support and cooperation of the Bader family.
We want our league families to understand that all HKL volunteers and employees, including Scott, are required to undergo background checks. This matter was not identified through that process because the alleged conduct had not yet occurred. If authorities were investigating Scott prior to the most recent checks, HKL was not notified.
As soon as we became aware of the situation, we took immediate action.
HKL is not involved in the investigation, and to date, no one from the league has been questioned by authorities. Should authorities contact us, we will cooperate fully and provide any assistance requested.
We understand that this news may be upsetting and may raise questions within our league community. While we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation or speculate about the allegations, we can assure you that the safety and well-being of the children entrusted to our league remains our highest priority.
