Join me in endeavor on the local short tracks in the Pacific Northwest. There's petrol power, there's turbo power and there's girl power. I have decided all three are extravagant and thrilling. I was born and raised in the racing realm, from oval car racing to sand drags. Racing is and has always been in my blood and been a dream of mine. In 2011, Steve Jackson afforded me the opportunity to start
with my own Acura, that was painted Pepto-Bismol pink with a large purple 6 painted on it. Racing the hornet class was the best opportunity a woman could ever ask for, but I knew I needed something much faster. Therefore in 2012, my amazing parents, Bill and Bonnie Kik bought me my Sedan as seen in the previous pictures. The first time I stepped foot into my legend car I immediately developed another family. There are no words to explain the love and passion I get from everyone with Columbia River Legends and other racers associated with this class. In the years I have been racing, I have learned how to be a mechanic, team member, support system, strong female in a male world, and humble. Here are some quotes that have hit home:
“On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”
― Ayrton Senna
*and*
“Winning has nothing to do with racing. Most days don't have races anyway. Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.”
― Amby Burfoot
and finally here is a quote from me:
"I may not be the best or the fastest racer on the track, but I am the best racer I can be when I
enter onto the track". The best feelings of racing is when I open the car door after sliding on my helmet, cinching myself into the seat and becoming one with the car, taking the steering wheel into my hands, and entering a zone that is unexplainable yet exhilarating. There is no turning back from here the adrenaline is now my addiction. The best part of racing is not winning, but being the role model to the up and coming racers. There are struggles and heartbreaks in every race but seeing the huge smiles on adults and childrens faces when they get the opportunity to cheer on, sit, stand or take a picture in a race car makes this racers day every single time.
