Mini Train of Herington, Kansas

Mini Train of Herington, Kansas Herington's own Mini Train has been entertaining children of all ages for many years. This G-16 train from the Miniature Train Company was built in 1950.

The train was eventually purchased from the city of Manhattan, KS in 1956 for $5,000. It made it's maiden run in the town of Herington on June 10, 1956. Currently, the Herington Mini Train is all volunteer, run and maintained by Union Pacific Employee Club #84 members and local Herington area residents, operating under the Herington Recreation Center Commission. The train is owned by the City of Herington.

We've been able to test the new brakes on the locomotive (full brake apply & full throttle). The test passed fine! However, we also discovered that one of the new drive-lines requires a smaller yoke to safely clear the iron truck, so we're going to have to rebuild that one... The weather is finally warming up so we can continue work.

I want to thank everyone that came out to the fair and took a ride on “The Golden State Limited”! It was fun for all, myself included! I do need to apologize for not running on Sat as promised, both me and the train are getting along in years and took a break.
