A little reminder that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is rest.
On Tuesday, I pinched a nerve in my back, bad. Like lost strength in my arms bad.
I got one workout in on Monday and then had to spend the rest of the week recovering instead of training.
And if I’m being honest, my first thought wasn’t, “I should rest.”
My first thought was, “Great. I’m going to lose progress.”
I think a lot of us have been conditioned to believe that missing workouts means we’re falling behind. That if we aren’t constantly pushing, grinding, and doing more, somehow everything we’ve built is going to disappear.
But that’s not how it works.
Progress isn’t built in one workout, and it’s not lost in a few days either. I mean, just check out those back muscles. 🤪
The muscle I’ve built, the habits I’ve developed, the strength I’ve earned, and the discipline I’ve created didn’t come from one week in the gym. They came from years of consistency.
So this week, instead of forcing workouts through pain and potentially making things worse, I listened to my body.
Because there’s a difference between discomfort and injury.
There’s a difference between being challenged and being hurt.
And learning that difference is part of becoming a better athlete.
The gym will still be there next week.
My weights aren’t going anywhere.
And I’d rather take a few days off now than turn a minor injury into something that sidelines me for months.
If your body is asking for rest, listen.
You are not lazy.
You are not losing all your progress.
You are not starting over.
Sometimes recovery is part of the program too 🖤
