Here is my Tachyon GunCam video from the indoor IDPA match at Fireline Shooting & Training Center yesterday. I was able take HOA.
I shot a very consistent match with only 2 Points Down. I also had 3 of the 4 stage wins.
The Match Director always does a nice job designing stages that provide the competitors with different options to execute their stage plans as well as a good amount of movement which can be a considerable challenge with indoor matches.
I try to take advantage of the indoor matches to work on areas that I struggled with during the previous competition season.
On the first stage, I attempted a tac-reload instead of dumping rounds. As you can see from the video, I would've saved a considerable amount of time by dumping 3 rounds into the first target followed by 4 rounds into the second and third target. That would've allowed me to advance from Point of Cover (POC 2) to POC 3 and complete my reload. Tac-reloads are something that I clearly need to practice during this off season.
Stage 2 was an unloaded start with all loading devices on the table. Hands started flat on the table as well. I only used 2 of my 3 magazines for this stage which is a bit risky depending upon the stage design. I placed one magazine on the upper right hand corner of the table. This allowed me to grab the magazine after running dry on T4 and load directly from the table. It also saved me some time from having to stow mags.
Stage 3 we started up close to the wall with our toes touching marks. On this stage I decided it was best to dump 3 rounds in the first 3 targets and 2 in the 4th target in order to run dry. However, I only shot 2 on T3 but it was an easy enough correction to just throw a third round into T4 without it impacting my stage plan. After T4, I reloaded as I stepped up towards POC 2 and engaged T5-T6. I then retreated up the left side of the range to engage T7 from POC 3 and move laterally to my right to finish the stage at POC 4 on T8.
Stage 4 was a burner stage. The firearm was loaded with only 4 rounds and the start position was with both hands touching the "X's" on the wall. Each target required 3 hits. I had a decent start but transitioned to T2 prior to completing my reload. This cost me time. After the reload, trigger freeze set in after 2 shots on T3. I transitioned to POC 2 and engaged T4 without issue. I fumbled the reload a bit, but finished strong on T5 & T6. Stages like this can be a bit of a trap. I don't pull the trigger nearly as quick as some of my fellow competitors. I honestly thought my stumbles and fumbles on this stage cost me the match.
A special thanks to the Ripon IDPA for designing the stages and setting them up.
As always, thank you to Fireline Shooting & Training Center DG Bullets Hunters HD Gold WindFall Defense Kydex Holsters NDZ Performance and 144.1 for your continued support.
