I suppose I outta give y’all a recap from our first kart race of the year down in Emma Missouri.
We started out the weekend on Saturday with some alright speed. For the first year ever, I first round qualified into an event. We qualified 11th out of 37 and didn’t have to go to the LCQ. that locked me into 370 main for good. On the other hand, we had thought there was going to be a LCQ for 340 and tried something, it did not work and due to them not running a second round, I missed out on the show. In 400 we went 13th out of 15.
To be honest I was NERVOUS going into these features. It had been a while since I started dead middle of a pack and indoor races are so fast paced. In 370 It didn’t matter though, 3 laps in I got moved while running 11th and got freight trained to the rear allowing the leaders to catch me and I pulled off.
Before the 400 feature Jesse Scholten came and talked with us a little bit on tires, he gave us a LR to try and I went out to the 400 feature confident as ever. Unfortunately, our chassis setup to start the weekend wasn’t the greatest. We went out and had a terrible RR skating problem, it honestly looked like I was racing my modified in that last feature. No good in a kart race.
Sunday rolled around and we started the day on the scales. New numbers. New lead placement. New ride heights. Everything. We restarted.
Qualifying for 370 we went a 9.8 which had us like low 30s for placement, obviously missing the shows. After Regan first round qualified, the GOAT Jesse came over again and gave us a set that Regan had just ran a 9.3 on.
My two crew chiefs informed me that my brake disc was glowing, meaning I was driving it like my balls never dropped.
I was getting HYPED for 370 mega qualifying. We had made some chassis adjustments to get rid of my free RR issue and I was feeling great. Went out, and after I realized my brake disc was glowing, I hardly touched it. I had no clue I was subconsciously dragging it until they told me about it. However, with our washer and a half adjustment we went to far and now I was pushing, didn’t matter though I stayed in the throttle and if you watched the last few qualifying vids, I’m sure your bu****le puckered as strongly as mine in the driver seat.
I went out and qualified a 9.392. We picked up a half a second. However this 9.3 did NOT lock me in to the show. We were close though and we felt good going into the LCQ’s. They were taking 12 and I qualified 16th in 370’s LCQ and 17th in 370 megas LCQ.
For the 3rd year in a row, we have missed the show. It’s always a great time down there though, and with not racing a kart very frequently anymore it’s always super relieving getting to see some of our kart friends again.
I genuinely cannot thank Jesse and Regan enough for letting us run their set for the last few qualifiers. I have to give a huge thanks to my Grandpa, Mom, and Dad as well, I wouldn’t even be at the racetrack if it wasn’t for those guys. Also a quick shoutout to the Wolfe crew, congratulations on your strong performance and thank you for always allowing me to bounce tire ideas off of you!
