Coach Charles “Chuck” Ingram retires after an extraordinary 69-year coaching career, leaving behind a legacy that is unmatched in Illinois high school athletics and deeply rooted in the Harrisburg community.

Girls Basketball Coaching Achievements
• 🏀 Girls Basketball
• Served as varsity head coach of the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs
• Achieved 250+ career wins in girls basketball
• Led teams to numerous IHSA postseason appearances, including regional, sectional, and super-sectional competition
• Coached during the HIGHLY COMPETITIVE Class A era, helping build Harrisburg into a respected Southern Illinois program

Track & Field and Cross Country Mentorship
• 🏃‍♀️ Track & Field & Cross Country
• Coached girls track & field and girls and boys cross country at Harrisburg for decades
• Developed athletes known statewide for discipline, consistency, and competitive excellence
• One of the longest-serving track and cross country coaches in Illinois history

• Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame inductee
• Recipient of the IBCA Derril Kipp Courage Award, presented by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. This honor recognizes coaches who exemplify exceptional courage, perseverance, character, and lifelong dedication to student-athletes and the game of basketball.
• Honored by Harrisburg Unit 3 School District, with the track and field facility named in his honor (2018) Although it has not been implemented, the majority of the faculty, including the current school board, are not aware of this naming. The cross-country course also bears his name.

If anyone has just a little extra time, Coach would love a visit. He isn't asking, but we know he is getting lonely. Grandpa is so used to being around people and now has no one but family. We are there for him but he can only take so much of us.🙂

He has always been there for all of us, now the table has turned.

He has a birthday January 19!

Coach Ingram officially retired in December. He has made so many contributions to this community and positively impacted numerous athletes throughout his career. His legacy of dedication will live on through the new cross country course, which he envisioned and created last summer. 69 years of coaching with the majority of those being in Harrisburg.

We are asking for prayers as Coach is going through some trying medical issues as well as plans to have his patella replaced in February. Unfortunately, he has not been able to be in the gym cheering on the Bulldogs due to the pain he is having.

Visits, cards, thoughts, and prayers, will be uplifting during this time. Feel free to share. Thank you everyone in advance.

This course was envisioned by Coach Chuck Ingram. While visiting his granddaughter's home, he realized that the existing course could be improved by utilizing her family's land. After a significant effort from him, his granddaughters, and great-grandsons, this vision became a reality. Harrisburg should take pride in the dedication of Coach, who has been serving for 68 years. At 90 years old, he continues to prioritize his athletes. Coach Ingram is truly an example of leadership, kindness, dedication, and love for this town.
