Got this gun case sewn up and finished, and I’m pretty dang happy with how it turned out.

The customer wanted it to have that old, beat-up, been-there-and-done-that kind of look — not something that looked brand new sitting on a shelf. So that’s what I went for.

A little rough around the edges, a little worn-looking, and built to look like it belongs in the back of a truck instead of a glass case.

I’m always up for making something a little different. That’s half the fun of doing this stuff.

What do y’all think? Would you carry this one?

Leather working

Ashley tried her hand at leatherwork! 🤎🩵

My first leather project was a couple of personalized bookmarks for the girls — and I learned pretty quickly that Chris makes this leather stuff look WAY easier than it is. 😂

These were hand stamped, dyed and antiqued, with a little turquoise added to the lettering. They’re not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of them for my first try!

Next on my list is learning more about leather tooling, especially floral designs, and getting better at dyeing and finishing. I’ve also discovered that Chris’s leather tool collection is geared a little more toward what he makes… which apparently means I now have an excuse to buy myself some new tools. 😉

I still need to grab a punch so I can add a hole and ribbon to finish these off, but I think I may have found myself a new hobby!

Who knows… maybe you’ll start seeing a few more handmade leather goodies coming out of Smith Field & Forge. 🤎
