A community member recently brought up a great point, and this helped us to remember that ๏ฟผmany parents and community members may be wondering the same thing.
โEvery team asks for fundraising. It is difficult to know what funds are being raised for the team and how the Booster Club supports differently than the individual fundraising.โ
Weโre glad this was brought to our attention ๏ฟผbecause transparency is important to us.
The short answer is: the Booster Club does not keep money raised by individual teams.
When a team conducts a fundraiser, those funds are earmarked specifically for that team. The Booster Club simply holds the funds in a secure account and provides financial oversight. The coach determines how and when those funds are spent to benefit their program.
Similarly, ticket sale revenue (after referee and game expenses are paid) belongs to the individual sport. Those funds are held by the district until coaches request them for approved team purchases.
In addition, one of the largest fundraising opportunities available to our teams is our Credit One Stadium volunteer program. Parents who volunteer at concerts and events earn money for the specific sports teams they choose to support. So far, parents have earned almost $75k for their own childrenโs teams through this program. The Booster Club coordinates the effort and carries the required liability insurance, but the overwhelming majority of the funds earned go directly back to the teams selected by the volunteers.
So what does the Booster Club fund?
The Booster Club raises money through memberships, sponsorships, merchandise sales, concessions, special events, and donations. Those funds are used to support all Hanahan High School athletic programs, not just one team.
Some examples include:
๐ Team uniforms
๐ Sporting equipment
๐ Scholarships for senior athletes
๐ Coachesโ CPR certifications
๐ Regular-season and playoff meals
๐ Senior banners
๐ Senior Night supplies
๐ Athlete t-shirts
๐ Letters, bars, and pins
๐ Trophies and plaques
๐ End-of-season banquets
Beyond those annual expenses, Booster Club funding has also helped provide major improvements and projects that benefit student athletes across multiple sports, including:
๐น A new sound system in the gym
๐น A portion of the weight room renovation
๐น Football play clocks
๐น Basketball shooting machines
๐น New wrestling mats
๐น Soccer practice goals
๐น Utility vehicles used to maintain athletic facilities
๐น Upgrades to weight room equipment over multiple years
๐น A scorerโs table used by basketball, volleyball, and wrestling
๐น A covered batting cage for baseball
๐น Stadium and facility signage recognizing our athletic programs and history
Our next Impact Report will be released soon and will provide even more detail, but over the past several years the Booster Club has invested more than $300,000 back into Hanahan High School athletics and student athletes.
We understand that fundraising requests can sometimes feel overwhelming, and we appreciate community members who ask thoughtful questions like this one. If you ever have questions about Booster Club operations, fundraising, or how funds are used, please ask. Weโre always happy to have the conversation.
