First tournament of 11U is officially in the books. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Did the scoreboard look exactly how we wanted it to? Nope.

Did we see a whole lot that made us excited about this group? Absolutely.

Four practices together as a full team. Girls playing new positions. New teammates learning each other. Some really good softball, some definite β€œwell, we’ll be working on THAT at practice” moments πŸ˜‚ and a whole lot of information for our coaches.

We’ve got work to do.

Good thing we like to work. πŸ˜‰

But we've watched nine girls start learning each other's voices, tendencies, personalities and just how competitive their new teammates really are. πŸ˜‚

Apparently being a teacher all day isn’t enough for me… so naturally, I also give my softball players homework. πŸ˜‚πŸ““πŸ₯Ž

And yes, they have journals.
And yes, I actually make them do them.
And yes, sometimes it’s homework. Sorry, girls. 😏

We spend plenty of time working on the things everyone can see β€” swings, glove work, footwork, throws, bunts, baserunning.

But some of the most important work we do happens between the ears.

Confidence. Ownership. Body language. Positive self-talk. Controlling the controllables. Learning how to respond when things don’t go your way.

Because at some point, every one of these girls is going to strike out. Make an error. Get frustrated. Have a rough game. Feel pressure. Doubt herself.

We can't prevent those moments.

But we can give them tools for what happens next.

So yep… Coach Megan assigns homework. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

But if a few journal pages help these girls become tougher competitors, better teammates, and more confident young women?

Worth it.

The work you can’t see matters too. πŸ’™πŸ’›

We started our Prize Box toward the end of last season as a way to recognize the little things that deserve to be noticed.

This year? We may have gotten a little carried away. πŸ˜‚

Dumplings. NeeDohs. Squishies. Candy. Hustl swag. Bat grips. Keychains. And plenty of other things an 11-year-old apparently *needs immediately.* πŸ˜‚

At every practice, one player β€” sometimes two β€” earns a trip to the box.

Not necessarily for being the best player that day.

It might be effort. Leadership. Being a great teammate. Coachability. Doing the little things right. Or showing some serious softball IQ. 🧠πŸ₯Ž

Sunday, ** #13 Josie Adams** earned her pick with some seriously heads-up baserunning.
