Have you ever tried brushing your teeth with the opposite hand? I did today and it was a challenge.

➡️Holding the toothbrush felt awkward, I tightened my grip a lot.

➡️It slowed me way down and the urge to switch to the easier way kept creeping in.

➡️No part of it felt comfortable and I wanted to switch back to save myself time and frustration.

THIS IS HOW CHANGE FEELS.

When you’re changing up your routine because you desire the outcome, you need to align your expectations.

It’s going to slow you down and it isn’t always going to feel natural. Our brain wants us to do things the easy way to stay safe- we have to re-train it. It takes time and effort, and it’s worth the work!!!

I call this a Lat Press Down, some may call it a Cable Pullover. Either way it works the lats and triceps.

This has been in my routine for over a decade and I love doing it on back day because it gives my grip (and forearms) a break from all of the rowing motions.

It’s kind of a Goldilocks move because when you begin, it feels easy, but then when rep 7 rolls around it really starts to burn.

Personally, I like to keep the weight challenging but moderate and go high reps. Volume, baby!

I’m rarely beating my personal records with this move. Instead, I like to focus on the time under tension and the contraction of the muscle as I do it. Breathe in on the up, and exhale on the press down.

Is this in your lifting routine yet? It burns so good!

When I tried this at HomeGymCon I knew I had to have it. It took about a week for me to talk myself into it, but I am so glad I did!

It is a gamechanger for me and my clients!!

5 stars, highly recommend.

Yesterday reminded me of who I want to be in my fifties and the work starts now.

I haven’t been practicing any chin ups lately and I’m looking forward to adding them back.

To be fair to myself, I stopped practicing because of two injuries. Both at different times. A reoccurring shoulder injury and an elbow tendinitis.

You will NEVER see me pushing through injury. Period.

I don’t like it when my clients do it either, and I have ended client relationships over it in the past. (To protect them and me.)

The good thing about weightlifting is that even after a break and recovery efforts, your body has muscle memory. If you start practicing again after you heal, you’ll be able to make pretty good progress quickly.

Lately I also took a break from upper body to focus on a bit more legs more….. and because my trapezius was talking to me. I had to PIVOT to keep going.

I had a massage last week and she worked so much tension out of my upper back and neck and I feel like I’m ready to gently restart with my goal.

At one point, I could do 15 chin ups, but that was 11 years ago, I was 116 pounds and I was in a bodybuilding prep. 💊🤷‍♀️

I’m not comparing myself to that girl anymore.

Remember- if you practice, you will make progress. Stay the path.

I had an amazing start to my Saturday…. a 7 miler with HikerBabes Central Indiana. Thanks Brooke for leading! It flew by and felt awesome to get it in first thing. We even saw some white pelicans!! Lots of birds migrating right now.

I also had the chance to crank out 2 weighted chin ups on the fitness trail. I need to keep working on those!

Came home and hopped right into my bikini. That’s probably where you will find me for most of this weekend.

This is for my ladies that aren’t on GLP1’s and still wanting to get lean. I know you’re out there. I’m doing it naturally too and there are tricks!!

If you want to make progress on your physique and not be thinking about food, nonstop, you need to incorporate volume foods.

Try to get at least one volume food into every single meal of your day. Try it this holiday weekend!!! Don’t restrict- ADD!!!

For breakfast, it could be berries.

For lunch, it could be cucumbers or melon.

For dinner, it could be cauliflower or cabbage.

When you start adding these into your normal meals, you will feel more satisfied, you won’t need a midday treat, and you won’t be peeling into the drive-thru just from a sniff of the fries.

Sometimes losing fat and having less food noise means that you need to plan more food into your day. Volume foods are the way.

Implement this for 7 days in a row and I guarantee you will feel better.
