Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” - Ecclesiastes 4:9
The other day, I was making an iced coffee and discovered there was only ONE lonely ice cube left.
I dropped it into my hot coffee and thought, Well...you're certainly trying, little buddy, but this isn't going to work. 😂🧊☕
So, I broke out the ice trays and added a whole bunch more. Before long, that hot coffee became the cold drink I was trying to make.
And standing there looking at all those ice cubes, I thought - there's a devotion in this!
One ice cube wasn't bad. It wasn't broken. It was doing exactly what an ice cube was created to do. But the job in front of it was simply bigger than what it could accomplish alone. Sometimes we're like that too.
God has given each of us gifts, talents, strengths, and opportunities to make a difference. We can certainly accomplish things individually, but Scripture reminds us that “two are better than one.” When we come alongside one another, something changes.
One person encourages. Another teaches. Someone volunteers. Someone gives. Someone organizes. Someone notices the person standing alone and simply says, “Come join us.”
At the YMCA, we see what happens when people bring their individual gifts together. Staff, volunteers, members, coaches, instructors, families, and partners each contribute something different. No one has to do everything. We simply need to be willing to do our part.
And that's true beyond the walls of the Y, too. God never intended for us to live the Christian life alone. We need people who will pray with us, encourage us, challenge us, and help us when the task in front of us feels bigger than we are.
Maybe you've been feeling like that one little ice cube lately. You are trying really hard but wondering whether you're making much of a difference. Don't underestimate what God can do with your part when it's joined with the faithfulness of others.
💙 Y Thought of the Week
You don't have to do everything; you just need to bring what God has given you. One person can make a difference, but when we serve, encourage, and work together, we can accomplish so much more. We were made to be better together. 🧊💙
