In case you missed it, here is the long awaited guidance on certain NFA items from the ATF.
https://www.atf.gov/fi***rms/update-to-nfa-transfer-guidance
In the simplest terms, as long as your state does not impose additional restrictions on NFA items, SBS (short barreled sh****ns), SBR (Short Barreled Ri**es), AOW (Any Other Weapon) and Suppressor creation, purchase and transfers no longer have to go through the ATF NFA Registration process. All that is required is a standard 4473.
Please note there ARE limitations here, such as transporting a SBS or SBR across state lines still requires a Form 20. It also still requires the FFL to have a SOT (Special Occupational Tax).
Yes, Call To Arms Gun Works has a SOT along with our 07 FFL.
While it is not mentioned here, the elimination of the NFA restrictions also implies the elimination of a Form 5 for bringing in your NFA item for maintenance or repair.
The NFA registration process remains a voluntary step for those who wish to do so or are required to have a NFA (zero dollar) Tax Stamp to comply with state laws.
Important note: All of this may be reversed by a subsequent administration, so please be sure to read the entire notice, FAQ's and consult a qualified fi***rms attorney in your state is you have questions.
For us, we are going to embrace the hell out of this!!
