What a day at Hiway 92! Buckle up...this one's a long one. 😅
The day started with a scorching 106° 🥵 and, as we got the car unloaded, both Mav and Mom became the targets of an angry wasp attack. 🐝 Safe to say it was an interesting start!
Once we got on track, things started looking up. We had some really solid practice laps for only our second time at Hiway 92, and we were excited to run true qualifying laps. The hard work paid off..we earned our very first Quick Time Award! 💨🏆
Then the day took another unexpected turn. Mav took a pretty hard tumble on pit road, leaving him with a nasty gash and plenty of road rash on his head.🤕 Thankfully the paramedics checked him over and confirmed he showed no signs of a concussion and didn't need stitches. As soon as the bleeding stopped, Mav's only concern was getting back in the race. That's one tough kid. 💪
For the trophy dash, Bandits and Outlaws were split into separate races. We got loaded up and staged...only to be sent right back to the pits for a rain delay. ⛈️
When we finally got back on track, the invert put us at the back o the field, but Mav drove his way all the way to the front for a P1 trophy dash finish! 🏁
The rain delay meant no heat races, and before the feature another storm rolled through, sending everyone back to the pits yet again. Once the track dried, the bigger classes went out first to make sure conditions were good enough for the Bandos.
Bandits and Outlaws ran the main together! We were originally set to start the feature from P3, but with a few drivers heading home because of the late hour and weather, we moved up to P2 to start. Mav got an incredible launch off the start and led the field for 10 of the 14 laps! A late caution set up a restart, and after an exciting finish we came home P2 overall and 1st Bandit! 🥇
It was long, wild, and unforgettable, and we're already looking forward to the next one!
